I am flying alone in 2 days and am a little scared! can anyone ease my mind a little please!!!!?

Hello! I am about to go to New Zealand , so this means about 24 hours of airports, layovers, and international flying. I am also going alone and I'm a little scared of flying. Are the risks of plane crashes really low? Also, Is it safe for a young woman, I'm 23, to travel internationally alone? I have friends and family once I'm there. Thanks so much for any help!

I'm 24 and last November I flew to Israel (where I also have family) by myself. I had a layover in Prague where I stayed for three days all by my lonesome. It was so much fun and you'll be so proud of yourself once you do it on your own. I hate flying. I have my own little take off routine where I just close my eyes and try to relax and before I know it I'm up in the air. I took 5 flights in a total of 10 days and let me tell you-- best way to get over your fear. Youll be totally fine. Flying international alone is no big deal. English is everywhere in all airports and if you are confused you just ask someone. Usually once you exit the plane an airport staff person waits by the door to direct peopel with transfers. If you are really scared as your doc to prescribe an antianxiety med they'll ease your mind. But, trust me youll be totally fine. People fly alone all the time and youll just be one of them!

just relax bring alot of thigs to entertain you. Remember to sleep, get the earplane things that make it so you dont have ear popping.

bring a DVD player and dvd's an Ipod and cross words and maybe a book. Remember to charge the DVD player during layovers. I have a DVD player with a dock for my IPOD.

just try and relax it will be ok.

I did that...flew home from New Zealand by myself and I was 25. Travel smart and you'll be fine...which should be easy when you're inside an airport. The risk of plane crashes is incredibly low.

I'm a young woman & I've traveled alone. I actually flew into Abuja, Nigeria from Houston, Tx alone when I was 22.

My advice is to take a book or some magazines or a crossword. Since you're a young lady, older men are gonna try and hit on you. I just blew them off, but I have a friend who went and bought a very cheap wedding band from Walmart or somewhere like that. That when if men start blabbing too much you can flash your ring and make a quick exit.

It's very unlikely that you're plane will crash!?! Try and breathe and remind yourself that people fly everyday.

Flying is statistically safer than driving. You'll be fine. Don't stress and ENJOY it.

For my opinion, you'll be fine just trust yourself and think of positive things when you are flying to New Zealand. Just think of the family you are going to see and your friends. Don't worry, you'll be safe and you'll be surrounded by people in the airplane that will always make sure your safety is always number one. So you don't have nothing to worry about, just enjoy your flight and have fun seeing the world.

I have not traveled overseas alone, but have traveled intercontinental. First of all, relax. Get all your documents in order pack everything that you are allowed to carry, and then sit back and enjoy the ride.
You are more likely to get struck by lightning than to be in a plane crash.
I have been lucky enough each time I have flown, to run into an american soldier (usually a group), and they were always really nice and protective. If you see none, just do as you would in a large city. Keep your eye on your surroundings at all times. Stay alert. Rest and relax on the flights. On the layovers, stay close to groups of people. You are safer in large numbers.
More than anything, enjoy your trip, and happy traveling.

Your chances of being involved in an aircraft accident are about 1 in 11 million. (more about it from link below)
Plane accidents are very rare. You have a higher chance of being in a car accident. =P

I'm sure you'll do just fine. I had a cousin who's 18 who traveled alone on a plane from Vietnam to the western part of the US she did well all alone. ^_^

If I were you, I'd be more worried about the 24 hour journey and the jet lag than the possibility of a plane crash. Think of it like this: do you hesitate or think about the possibility of dying every time you get in the car to go somewhere? Probably not. Flying in an airplane is so much safer than driving in a car. In fact, among the largest carries in the US, the one with the most fatal incidents is United with 4. OUT OF 10 MILLION FLIGHTS! Those are incredible odds in your favor.
