Relax and enjoy.

Once you have boarded the plane and found your seat, turn on the overhead air so you keep cool. Take a stick of gum out and begin chewing it just before take off. It will help with the ear popping (perfectly normal). I prefer an aisle seat so I can stretch my legs and don't have to climb over people when I have to get out to use the lavatory.

If you have any motion sickness, do NOT read under any circumstances. You can bring your Walkman to listen to. Or sleep.

Wear comfortable clothes (sweat suit is great) and loose fitting shoes.

Odds are that you will arrive safely but your luggage won't. So stow a change of panties in your purse!

Relax, take a few deep breaths and bring something to keep your mind occupied - a book, music, dvd player, etc. I've been on many flights and there's nothing to it, just bring something to keep yourself occupied since it can get pretty boring on them.

go with a professional airline.

Heyyy, I recently flew for the first time too!

Seriously, you need not worry about it. You are more likely to die in a car crash than on an aeroplane, it is a fact!

Take off is the best bit, enjoy it!! Once you get into the air it is really boring as there is not much to do! Make sure that you get up and walk around perhaps every hour!

Hope you have a great trip!

I don't know which one will be more trying on your nerves - the security screening, taking off, landing, delays, claustrophobia, or the cost of your tickets. I have flown for most of my life (once every couple of years) and it is almost always stressful for me.

The most claustrophobic part of air travel for me is waiting for the door to be opened so you can get out of the plane - with everyone standing in the aisle.

Some people are better at it than others. I think you need to be a frequent flyer (work-related) and have a comfortable set of habits/routine.

I agree with the others: keep your mind occupied and try to find a legal sedative.

Do a whole 8 ball of coke and pray the bloody thing doesn't crash before you land.

don't be nervous hon, i'm not sure i'm the right person to comfort you because i JUST LOVEEEEE flying!!!

logically you'll be scared of course, imagine, you're flying in the air 30K ft from the ground without support! but come on! you know well it's safe! just check how many flights come & go at your airport every hour... it is safer than riding in cars!

on the other hand, don't you think it's amazing? to be able to enjoy the views only birds can see? and you're so close to the clouds that you can actually SEE the current passing by the plane & the clouds changing shapes beside you... also, you're enjoying one of the most amazing inventions of human being! you, a land-bound living thing, can exist in the sky! every time the plane takes off i felt like crying... the feeling is soo overwheming & wonderful... if you choose to take a nap, when you wake up you're already in a new country with different time zone, language, culture... this is SOOOO great hon!

if you're still nervous, get an MP3, or a video game thing (PSP, Nintendo etc), or a book, best is to get a friend/relative to chat with you in case you're really nervous

get some chewing gum in case your ear can't adapt to the change in air pressure, relax after the plane takes off coz soon meals would be served (it's not that bad as people always say), if you're worried about your circulation, walk to the toilet every 2 hours as some kind of exercise~

I know you can do it! enjoy!

MEW
No need to worry. It's a lot like riding a bus. Don't get yourself worked up about it. The more you think about it the more nervous you'll be. Thousands of people are in the sky in airplanes at any given moment around the globe. Most of us make it to our destination without incident. There's nothing to it.

No need to be nervous!
Many more people die in car crashes than in plane crashes.
Flying is really beautiful, even if you get in turbulences.

RELAX AND ENJOY IT.

Phil
close your eyes during take off...chew lots of gum, your ears will pop

Child of God
Just Pray and believe if you just happen to go down without the pilot navigating the plane, Pray that you will meet JESUS? (Ha! Ha!) Have faith that you will be all right. It shall be all right...Try to think of something wonderful!

I tell all my first time flyers this, keep an eye on the airline hostesses, forget about all the noises etc your hear jsut keep watching themand unless they panic everything is normal.

Seriously the fly all the time so they know every little sound and noise that the aircraft can make and why and how it does it. unless they panic you are completely and utterly safe.

also do take something chewy to help your ears decompress on the take off and landing this will help

and one last thing be prepared to feel a little tired when you land this is normal it is just your bodies way of adjusting to the stresses of compression and depcompression in the aircraft.

saved_by_grace
Just remember that flying is safer than driving a car. You will be nervous regardless of any hints or tips from the general public. Once you are in flight...if you have a window seat be sure and look at the scenery. It is beautiful. Talk to your neighbor to keep your mind off of the flight or read a magazine or a book. Be sure and take along some gum and chew it while you are in the air. This always helped me with my ears popping.
Have a wonderful flight! And remember it is done everyday.

Get a song into your head during take off, or pretend it's your very first rollercoaster ride, cos you got more chance of getting harmed in one of those than a plane.

JESSICA
get really really really drunk or high

I can tell you that flying is wonderful. I always say to myself "Look at this big bird taking off and flying through the air. It is a miracle! And when we land I always say "Look at this big wonderful bird touch down." Also don't hesitate to ask the doctor for a tranquilizer LOL. I dont use them but at one time I did. Do not worry.

My answer: Drink before the flight. Don't look out the window. And listen to music. It also helps if you try and pick up a stewardess.
