firstly it would depend it your bags get thru-checked...however I would imagine that the fact that Dublin is (southern Ireland)..you and your bags will need to clear immigration there..as your first point of contact with "land"..however..if you are classed as being in "transit" it may be that your bags are checked (and you) on your first point within the United Kindgom.
I would suggest you contact the airline that you are flying with and they should be able to keep you right.
Good luck and safe travels. |

Sheffield does NOT have an international airport. You either fly into Heathrow (London), Gatwick (London) or Manchester. You will then have to make your own way using public transport (Road/Rail) to Sheffield.
In answer to your question, it depends on how long you have to wait for your connection at Dublin. If the 'plane from LAX is merely making a scheduled stop at Dublin then probably not because you will be waiting in the departure lounge. If on the other hand you actually change 'planes at Dublin then yes you will need to reclaim your luggage and probably will go through immigration. |

Yes, you will have to collect your baggage and go through immigration and Customs controls at Dublin. As Dublin is your first place of entry into the E.U., all checks will have to be carried out at this point. |

No as you shall be in transit. |

when you check in at lax tell the check in staff of your route and they should be able to transit your luggage straight through. I work as cabin crew and a lot of people do this with ease. |

If you're going with the same airline throughout your journey then you shouldn't have to worry about baggage claim or the like - your luggage will be transferred automatically to your next flight. And if you are just "passing through" or "in transit" then you have no business with customs/immigration (unless of course you want to do some sightseeing and you leave the airport - then for sure you'll have to go through customs). However, if you are travelling with different airlines then you will most likely have to go to baggage claim, which means you'll probably also have to pass by the customs officer (baggage claim is usually after passport control).
In any case...the best thing to do, as another poster mentioned, is to contact your airline (either before you go to the airport or when you first check-in at your point of origin). |

To all the people saying Sheffield doesnt have international airport.
They are landing at Dublin.
They will then transfer to an 'internal' flight (yes I know its a different country).
In answer to the actual question - no you should not have to collect your bags. |

most likelly you wont have to claim your bags, usually in europe if you are in transit they wont have you claim your bagage during stop overs they will just forward it to your final destination. its only in us that you have to claim your bags each time. but i would contact the airline to double check |
