As good if not better then anyone else. Sky West Airlines only requires a HS diploma or GED, over 21 with no upper age restriction and pass a background check to be enrolled into their training program at Salt Lake City, UT. Most other Airlines have the same basic requirements. Good luck, I will have coffee with cream please and thank you. |

Your chances are the same as anyone else. Back in 1999, my step-Dad had had enough of the rat race (design program manager for an engineering company) and decided to cut back a bit. His 401k was in good shape, and my Mom was also considering retiring from years of teaching. At age 63 he became a flight attendant for Continental. They have attendants in their 70s. You ONLY have to be able to pass the physical. He's been doing this for over 7 years, and loves the flexibility and the freedom of the job. In fact, he and Mom are in London right now (he's between his lines) enjoying autumn over there (while my wife and I get the mail and take out the trash for them).
Go for it! |

You're chances are pretty good. Most airlines these days are looking for life experience and proficent people during their recruitment - gone are the days of gorgeous models walking into that job. Who are the people with a lot of life experiences? An 18 year old who has just finished school? Or a 40-something who has done just about everything? You need to show them that you have A LOT of customer service experience and you have been in, and handled well by yourself, just about every concievable difficult customer service situation imaginable. You also need to show you have exceptional customer service skills. That's the big thing they're looking for these days.
I got a flight attendant job well after my 40th birthday, and I wish you all the best with it ... belive in yourself, it can be done! |

If you're applying in the U.S. where age descrimintion is illegal, your chances are good. Elsewhere in the world, they have silly and updated age restrictions.
We had people in their 40's and 50's in training school. Most were career-changers. They did great and we enjoyed flying with people who had the enthusiasm of new-hires, but also maturity. Many went on to do special assignments.
We had a few parent/children pairings. The kid got the job and talked their parent into following them. One husband joined up after retirement. One gal that I especially enjoyed working with was married for 30 years with 5 kids. He dumped her for his secratary and she went off and became a F/A, travelling and seeing the world!
You still need to pass the medical but otherwise, go for it! |

worse than average
hmmmm why the thumbs down. The average age of an air hostess is 31, and as age increase, chances of employment with an airline company decrease.
Taking 'n' as the mean and a standard variation or 9, I would say your chances are, as I pointed out, worse than average.
oh, but "go for it!" |
