I know that you will think i am just old fashioned, but I have a FEW suggestions that WILL work if done together...

I would first look up the statistics for the airline you chooose to travle. Accident rates, engine failure rates, ANYthing you can find on safety statistics. compare them to the statistics for traveling by car. Armed with information, you will be able to move forward more easily. Have confidence in statistics because they ARE real and accurate.

Second, there is a scripture, it reads " For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and love and of sound mind" SO that being said.. there is NO reason to fear.... I suggest you begin to pray about this situation. If you are required to fly for you job or for an upcomong vacation, begin now to ask God to fulfill his promise. I know most might think this is silly, but if you believe God created you and the Bible is his word, then you know that God will never leave you or forsake you...

So with information and a strengthening prayer and life of faith, you CAN overcome ANYTHING.... .. even if you do NOT believe prayer will work, try it..... "lean not unto thy own understanding, but acknowledge HIM in all thy ways and he shall direct thy paths"

Now, keep us updated and let us know how it goes... ( btw, you can use this strategy for ANYTHING you fear)

love tiff

Hi ! theres nothing to fear about flying, with the recent developements in aircraft technology planes are very safe at this age and time. Look around you even little children dream of having a chance to ride an airplane. When I was younger my ambition is to become a pilot someday but everybody seems to be discouraging me saying its dangerous, your other foot is already in the grave if you pursue that dream they say. But I have learned to reason with them, I just tell them that if they find this dangerous then what is a fullproof profession to guarantee you to be alive?
There is none! even people die during their sleep! for crying out loud. So I had it my way. Now after 28 yrs as a captain with a major airline and flying the Airbus A340 ( in the next 2 yrs I willbe flying the A380 jumbo) I guess there is no truth to that belief after all, dont you think?, so if I were you I will take on this fear head on! once its over and done with you will probably laugh when you look back and think how silly you were!

I you really need to do it, you will. While fear of flying can be justified (thanks to terrorists), ground travel can, and in many cases, is much more dangerous. People who have done a lot of flying will tell you it's no big deal, but fear can be tough to overcome.

You can try a sedative, or try getting on a small plane (like a Cessna) and get over it little by little(baby steps).

The best way to overcome the fear is to, like the commercial says, JUST DO IT.

Once you get passed your first flight, it really is no big deal.

Try to get yourself on a 'shuttle' and take a 30-45 minute flight. Between the take off and landing, you won't have much of the relaxing 'flight time' associated with a long flight. If you can deal with the discomfort of a 1/2 hour flight, you'll be able to deal with a much longer flight, as there is much more time to relax and enjoy it.

And to LORI E. You're getting on the damn plane!!! AND THAT'S THAT!!!!!!!!!!!! I love you!

Look at the stats. You are more likely to be killed on the way to the airport then in a plane crash.

In the USA, there are around 60,000 people killed in a car accident, in an average year. There are about 350 people killed in a plane crash, on average, in a year... and most of those were in small private planes, not commercial flights.

Flying is very safe...

Trust in your airline and the crew.Your aircraft will be well maintained and safe and must be frequently inspected according to FAA regulations.Your pilot does a preflight inspection and physically walks around the exterior of the aircraft before every flight.Your flight crew all must be certified by the FAA to fly the type of aircraft you are flying on.Each flight crew member must have a complete physical every 6 months and has frequent re-qualification flight checks. They are all true professionals doing what they love to do...FLY! So,sit back and relax.Enjoy the flight!

I have fear of air travel as well. You can overcome this by simply traveling by plane. Me? I'll keep my feet on the ground, thank you.

Flying stinks, and the airlines are the biggest scumbags in the world.
Amtrak takes longer, but you can get your own private room and travel in your underwear.

when faced with a fear, usually the best thing to do is take on the fear "HEAD-ON"! Challenge both yourself and the fear telling both of you that it (the fear) can not harm you and that you will beat it (the fear).

Fly with someone, I had my fiance with me, hes an old pro. I flew for the first time last year. I was horrified, and I won't lie, the take off was terrible for me. But all you can do is do it. Face it, ya know? Theres no quick fix, or a pill to help. The landing was better. By the time we flew home, it was much easier. You'll do fine. :)

Optimized XD
Fly more often and realize that you have a higher chance of dying by falling space debris than by crashing in an airplane.
