I don't have a credit card or mobile phone. Am I allowed to fly? |
-Never used to be a problem.. I paid my money, showed my passport and got on a plane-
- But now... The EU/ UK gov. is to introduce a new policy where all air passengers have to give their mobile numbers and credit card details to the the gov..
http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2008/feb/23/uksecurity.terrorismandtravel
-IMHO this is a stupid idea. It is a great invasion of privacy. Criminals and terrorists will just give fake details, and the security forces will be lumbered with lots of useless information ( of ordinary passengers) to wade through.
-What do you think? |

I think that is stupid. What about people who have bad credit or don't like cell phones. That is wrong. What is the point of that?
I guess I can never fly huh? |

And I thought traveling in the US was a pain.......and they were only asking for photo ID.......
Too bad they can't assign PIN numbers for all people in the UK, so that you didn't have your credit info floating out there |

At the moment, it is in your interest to pay by UK credit card if the flight was purchased in the UK (simply because under UK law you get some level of legal protection from the credit card company if you don't get what was promised). Similarly, it is in your interest to provide a mobile number because some airline do actually contact you if there is a change in the flights you are catching. However, it is your choice to provide this information - you can pay by cash and not provide a mobile number.
However, I would feel uncomfortable having to provide this information, particularly if the information is going to be transmitted across to multiple countries. AT the moment, it is my choice to provide this info and I do so as an informed choice. However, there is no real benefit, from a security standpoint, in holding this information. Credit cards can be cloned and disposable Pay as you Go mobiles can be purchased. Once purchased and used, they can be disposed of without being able to trace back to the person who actually flew. |

haha pretty silly - if someone doesn't have any credit backing to show for, are they going to issue a credit card anyway? silly.... |

Personally I think that is totally pathetic and very much an infringement of our privacy, I wouldn't worry about it too much if I were you and if it does come into force then just buy a very cheap mobile and get one of those credit cards that you top up yourself and if that ain't good enough for them, then maybe a pint of your blood may suffice, sorry for been sarcastic but that's what they'll be demanding off us next. |

Well this is information that some airlines ask for anyway. Hopefully this won't happen but if we had a proper liberal party they would strongly oppose such plans. Answer to your question: I'm sure that you are allowed to fly even without a credit card and a mobile phone. |

hasn't happened yet I don't think. You'll be fine. If you've got any doubts then call up an airline to ask... |

I don't think it is correct, Is the EU/UK govt also confirming to allocate Credit Cards and Mobile Phones to every one. It is not practical to come into operation as it will be objected internationally.* |

I think this is another reason why there is a United States of America! Our forefathers probably saw this coming. Hopefully, our current leadership doesn't adopt the same. |

well i work at an airline and i book tickets all day long all over the world. never heard of this so its obviously not happening anytime real soon. if it does happen i dont think it means you HAVE to have a cell phone or credit card. sounds like its one of several things they will ask for. it would be best to wait until it happens and if you need to travel then call the airline. but as of right now its not happening. |

I think this is not a bad idea. Now a days, getting a credit card is very easy. It is free as long as you don't use it. So if someone doesn't have one, he or she should be provided with one. |
