I don't like flying any tips to help me relax ( no alcohol!!)?

I work in aviation and I am quite aware that the crew are very professional. My dislike for flying stems from the sensations such as when the a/c banks and descends.

I would strongly suggets you read about phisiology of flight. It will help you clearly understand what is happening and how your body is interpreting. Knowing a little bit about where your sensations are coming from, will help you ease the anxiety caused by the flight itself. Then you should go out with a flight instructor and take a few lessons on a general aviation aircraft and do some maneuvers yourself, specially those that can cause anxiety and nervousness. It will be good for you. After that, you will gain a cleared understanding and will be able to relax.Hope this helps!

I hope you are not a pilot :)
I am in aviation as well. Just relax, its great. You can't change a thing when you are up there, so just enjoy the experience.

Nothing interests you when u r onboard.
You can maintain a mini library with quotations, phrases, language dictionary.

Best time to build up ur vocabulary and if u r learning any other language use the dictionary.
By the time u memorise few pharases and words u will be surprised that u have descended.

Try some Yoga prior to your flight. Or a workout that lets off the good endorphins in the brain.

sleeping pills

I find that if I read our do crosswords during the part of the flight that worries me if makes me concentrate on what I'm doing or reading and away from what is happening on the plane.

Take a flying lesson in a little Cessna - you'll get to control all of those sensations you're averse to and it's the most fun you can have with your clothes on! After that an airliner will be no problem at all.

learn progressive relaxation or autogenic training. if there are no night classes on that in your area, you might be able to find a dvd or book to train yourself.basically these methods employ things like breathing techniques, beautiful thoughts etc. to achieve a state of deep relaxation. it'll also help you in other stressful situations like before job interviews. the guy who invented autogenic training did so in the trenches of world war 1 and if it helped him there it would certainly help you on a plane... :-)

I dont like flying but have to regularly - i sit by the window so i can see some of whats going on out side and to make sure we are still up in the sky during the flight. Sounds silly but it helps me.
To help you relax you bring things familiar to yourself ie books, music, films and read, listen and watch them on the flight it makes you forget about the surroundings and reminds you of home.

Take several yoga classes and learn how to meditate. Yoga has a way of calming your entire body. You can image and place yourself in a different environment while flying. Mind over matter. Listen to nature music of something VERY SOOTHING.

You can always take a muscle relaxer.
