Get a really good book - and start reading it before you leave. You won't want to put it down ...

All diversion techniques have some - but only limited - success. You might also try talking to the crew.

Remember that flying is the absolute SAFEST method of transportation available.

The best cure is to fly more often so you get used to it. Adn if you begin to think of the worst case scenario as you are flying, close your eyes and relax and think of very pleasnt things such as a beach or your favortie things. You can also try to close your eves and pretend that there is a dot in the cester of your head and just focus on it. This really does work

I flew for the first time in June, the way I got through it was to stay calm, still and talk to others around you. I had my eyes shut for most of the flight but once I had got used conditions I started to relax. I also held my husband's hand for all of the flight.

get some Dramamine or go to the airport bar and get ripped!

I would suggest that if you have one to bring your ipod or mp3 player with you. Music is usually very calming to people and you can just focus on the music and let your mind think of other things rather then the flight that you are on. Just know that flying is very safe these days!

Take an ipod/mp3 player, some books and magazines and a portable dvd player to watch movies. If they serve alcohol on the plane, get a small glass glass of wine to relax you enough so you can fall asleep. Before you know it, you'll be at your destination....Good Luck

Is it flying itself or the turbulence. I know there are a lot of people who don't like flying because the turbulence scares them. Honestly, it's never fun to go through no matter how many flight hours you've got under your belt.

Best thing to do, try to sit closer to the front of the plane. If it's the turbulence that bothers you, you feel it far less in the front of the plane and far more in the rear.

Find something to distract yourself. Make friends with the person sitting next to you, play games, watch a movie. It will help your time go by faster and before you know it you will be back on the ground again. If you are just sitting in your seat doing nothing, you will have more time to focus on the fact that you are flying, and the fact that you do not like flying.

If you are on a long trip take motion sickness medicine. It'll knock you out and you'll sleep your entire flight.

Know that your flight crew are highly trained and that they fly thousands of hours a year. They wouldn't be doing the job if it were unsafe.

You may never feel 100% safe, because it is an unnatural situation that you have no control over; but you can make it so you feel a lot safer and not so nervous about it.

Take care, and I hope that helps

Take an interesting book which will keep you hooked to your seat and make you forget about flying. Or you could just choose an airline that offers onboard entertainment on all classes like Singapore Airlines, Malaysian Airlines, Emirates Airlines, Etihad Airways, Air Arabia, etc.

Talk to the Flight Attendants especially about the mechanics of flying. They can explain turbulence, the noise, and all the other things that make flying not too much fun. If they give you the scientific details on how it works but in words a non-scientist can understand, it makes it a lot easier to deal with flying. I used to totally panic in even the lightest turbulence till I asked a FA friend of mine, who explained how the changes in air temperature, density and direction can make the plane bump around, and how the force of the plane going forward will keep it in the air even through rough turbulence even if it feels horrible, and that made a huge difference. Now any time I have an unpleasant situation on a plane (super-rough flight, too-hot landing, etc) I run it by my FA friend who explains all the science on it and it makes the next flight so much easier to deal with!

Accept the fact that one day you're going to die, the less you care that you are going to, the more you accept, the more power you have. The person who cares the least always has the most power in a situation when it comes to these matters.

Just stay calm. Take a magazine or book and pay no attention to what's going on around you. I normally will try to stay up all night and then sleep on the plane so it's like I take off and land and never know I've been in the air.

best thing to do is to fall asleep...and teh only way to do that (since its so uncomftarble an di'm assuming u are going economy class) is to take a sleeping pill..theer are herbal ones outthere that you dont need prescriptions for also a night cold and flu tablet will make u fall asleep :)
