It's Me |
I fly about once a month for my job and on two occasions now have been seated next to people who have been? |
extremely foul smelling. I'm not a snob or anything, but I think there's an extreme that most normal people would find offensive. Since the flights I'm on are usually completely full, is there anything one can do or say to the flight staff that might help things????? Anyone ever been in this position before???? |

The best thing is when you notice the person next to you is smelly and making you feel nauseous, politely go up to one of the flight attendants and in a sincere, soft spoken voice (so nobody else hears) explain the situation. Make sure you sound sincere as possible (these issues can be embarrassing.) Ask if you can be moved. Chances are, the attendants will sympathize with you (they hear it all.) I have had this problem before. I sat next to an Indian man and he had a really offensive smell. I politely explained my situation and I was moved. No problem. If they don't accommodate you, then I would get more stern. |

All you can really do is ask to be reassigned. if the flights are full you are kind of screwed. When i'm around people that smell, i coat my hands and upper lip in a pleasant smelling lotion. I know it sounds goofy, but sometimes its overpowering enough that i don't smell the stinkies around me. |

Yes, if the flight is not full see if you can move to an open seat, or better yet if the smell is unbearable, and you feel like heaving, see i can give up your seat and asked to be on a later flight.. |

Yes, ask to be re-seated. Tell them why. It can't hurt. |

oh, how awful, made a shiver run down my back. Wouldnt you think they would of showered before hand, they know they are going to be cramped on a plane, mingers. Go the toilet and have a quiet word with the crew, but wouldnt of thought there is anything they could do, but it will give them a good laugh. Yuk ! (id personally go and stand up somewhere) |

yes, I have asked attendants to move me due to the persons smell, once foul, once perfume, the last time they moved me up to first class since they had no other seats available. Just be extremly polite and explain your situation, and its about to make you throw up, trust me, the girls dont want to clean that up. LOL sometimes you have to work it to your advantage, good luck. |

The next time that happens, try this:
Carry a handkerchief - if your 'neighbors' are foul smelling, simply pull out your handkerchief and place it over your nose. Your flight attendant SHOULD notice your discomfort and offer to move you. If he or she does not, find one and explain that you are going to need several air sick bags unless they find you a new seat elsewhere in the plane. If they still don't comply, walk the aisles until they do!
I wish you well! |

I fly for an airline and this happens all the time, unfortunately there isn't much you can do, some people do not wear deodorant etc, or some have odor from their pores etc, you can't physically do anything about it, it's unfortunate.
