First, check to see if your medical insurance will cover the cost of an upgrade. It often will if the trip is somehow not optional.
A free upgrade is unlikely but do ask. You can improve your (very small) chances by getting to the airport early, dressing nicely, being polite, and by presenting documentation that your injury is real.
You should also call United to request a seat with more legroom. Note that I don't think you can sit in an exit row if you have an impairment, but ask about other seats with more room. Another answer points out you need to make sure you won't need physician approval to fly, and you should ask to avoid a nasty surprise at the airport.

Good luck! |

I strongly doubt it. And well, there isn't much to elaborate on that. |

NOOO!!!

Sure if you are prepared to upgrade your fare cost too. Airlines are not charities to the injured. They figure if you do not want to pay then it is not that important to you.
A broke foot is hardly excuse to not sit with the unwashed crowd. |

Probably not, but ask for a bulkhead seat. You'll be more comfortable. |

How cute are you? That always helps. I find that when I flirt and act really appreciative with the desk agents (male or female... I don't care as long as they upgrade me) I've gotten more upgrades. |

United doesn't fly from Jo'burg!
but anyway....no.....you can ask res agent to put a note in your reservation, so that airport sees it and maybe can give you seat with more legroom. As for a free upgrade? I wouldn't put my rand on it |

Better put on your "sad face" and work that magic!!! As long as you are SUPER nice to everyone they will pretty much do anything to take care of you. |

you can also request a wheelchair from the airline
and then you can also probally board the aircraft early
as well |

Umm they may , they may not though well i mean depending on how full the flight is .. The most you may get out of it is a ill seat so that you can get out or in to get up and use the rest room... I know if they have the room they may if not then just a outer seat..
God bless you and good luck have a safe trip... |

If you are in plaster above the knee,,they will charge you for 3 seats !!! so you can sit side on,,,plaster or damage below the knee,,,you sit in a normal seat,,,again you cannot stretch out by emergency exits as only fit people can sit in these seats,,,,so your upgrade is unlikely,,You should also get a doctors or hospital note and contact the airline,,before you fly,,,as they may not board you if you have crutches and are injured, without advising them,,,,,air travel is ALL about safety now,,, |

No! And don"t ask for a bulkhead seat either.Your looked as if " temporally disabled " ESPECIALLY in an emergency. |

If the flight isn't full they might. |

Not likely unless you get on a flight that is not crowded and you get someone who is really nice but unlikely they will upgrade you for a broken foot |

You can try, but don't count your chickens!!! I broke my foot 3 months ago and people have been nothing but rude, whether I'm on my crutches or in the motorized scooter at the supermarket. Where are all of the considerate people? |
