I have a question that has always interested me....? |
I live in Australia, therefore we are an island and whenever we leave the country, we go overseas (over the seas). What do people from Europe say when they are going from say Denmark to France? Are they still going overseas? Even though it's really overland? Or what about when Americans go to say Costa Rica, is that going overseas, or just overland, what do you call it?
Lol, I know its a weird question but whenever I go somewhere it's overseas, so do you still call it overseas, or just overland or going to another country lol? |

I live in the US, and sometimes in Mexico. When we travel throughout the continent of America ( N&S america) we really just say that we traveled, went on a trip, and others call it going on road trips, going overseas only applies to us when we travel out of the Americas to Europe, or over the pacific to Asia. |

In America we have a few ways of saying it:
Going abroad
Leaving the country
Going to (fill in destination here0 |

Good question. For me, living in the continental U.S., going overseas means either crossing the Atlantic to Europe or the Pacific to Asia. Not sure what I'd call traveling in the Caribbean or South America, but in my mind it's not "overseas". |

Well if I went from America to Costa Rica, I would probably say that I'm going to Costa Rica, regardless of the fact that I'm flying over the ocean. If I got SENT to a different continent I would refer to it as being overseas. If I went of my own free will to a different continent, I would think of it as just going to _______. As far as from Denmark to France, I would imagine it as just going from Denmark to France.
A confusing answer to a confused person :) |

I think some people say, "I'm going abroad," which would cover going overseas or overland. Most people will just say where their going to, "I'm going to Hong Kong," or "I'm going to Europe" if they're going to more than one country. Or they might say "I'm getting out of here," just like I'm going to do now. |

I was born in Canada, and have lived in the US just as long. I know this is not over-seas. I call it nothing more special then traveling to another country. |

Its overseas when you travel over a body of ocean, otherwise its just called a trip :P. |

I am an American and when I go to places like Mexico or Canada, I don't say that I am going "overseas" but that I am "going out of the country."
I've never heard anyone use "overland." |
|

Brian

Well technically its overseas, but I think most people just going to a different country.
p.s. add me as best answer if you can, i need points |
