I have just experienced a frightening flight would it pit you off flying? |
the engine blew up with several loud bangs and then caught fire it was a two engined plane so we had to dump fuel at sea and make an emergency landing on one engine It shows how safe it is to fly as we landed safely |

You've just seem aeroplane safety in action, lose an engine, engine fire, land safely.
The chances of you being involve in another incident is so small that its not worth thinking about. |

You have answered the question yourself. There are so many safetey measures built in, it is statistically the safest way to travel, except for buses. The main reason most people get nervous of flying is either claustrophobia, or no control over what happens next ie someone else is in charge. |

I guess you would have to ask yourself if you would stop riding around in cars if you were in a car accident? I've been in a car accident, (not my fault...old lady went through red light going 50 mph, hit a car that spun around twice then hit us), and it took me a couple weeks to feel ok about being in a car again. And planes ARE safer than driving/riding in a car! Those guys up front are trained really well on what to do, under a lot of different scenarios. I'm sure the next time you fly, you will probably be a little bit paranoid...but the more you do it, the easier it will get. To me, life is to short to not fly at all. There are many great places out there you can't get to by way of car, train, bus, etc. I'd rather die trying, than not try at all. |

Statistically, it's still the safest method of travel.
Personally, I'd be on a cruise ship in the future. At least that way, you have a chance of rescue or at least to find something that floats.
Been on 2 flights (Mexico & Cyprus) and experienced no trouble - but my confidence is easily knocked! |

My mother experienced the same thing, it definitely did not put her off of flying. I think I'd be afriad, but then get over it just as quickly. |

I can't truly say whether or not it would put me off flying at I have never had such a scary experience on a plane. I think I would be very nervous on the first flight afterwards but I hope I would carry on flying because I love to travel.
As you said airplanes are pretty safe really, odds of being killed on a single airline flight are:
Top 25 airlines with the best records = 1 in 10.46 million
Bottom 25 with the worst records = 1 in 723,819 |

That could be pretty scary but flying is still the safest form of transportation. My parents were on a flight where the turbulence due to strong wind was so bad the programs they were watching on the TVs kept going on and then off. The plane made a bumpy landing and my parents got off. However when the flight continued on, it took off from the wrong runway, hit some construction equipment and crashed. My parents didn't know about the accident until they arrived home that night. |
