You must get a window seat. Try to focus on how magical flying actually is! Take a map, look out the window often and try to work out where you are. Isn't it amazing to be able to travel so far so fast?
Take a variety of reading matter: Magazines, short stories, a travel book (and make notes while you read) and a real page turner of a novel (I start reading a good book before I travel, so I know it's good and don't have to "get into it".) Take some good earphones - you'll enjoy the movies more if the sound is of a better quality. Make up stories about the people around you; write them down if you feel like it. This may turn you into a writer! Listen to music with your eyes shut, then draw the images that came to you while you were listening. Then look out at the view again! (a friend recently flew over the Grand Canyon; the view was spectacular and he was the only person on the entire plane who looked at it; everybody else had their screens down. What a waste! ) |

you do know that the time is different b/c its local time that you land at right?? I've never been/see on a flight that long Baltimore to China was only 15 hrs in the air. but if you count time it was like 24 hrs. ie left early morning and landed the next day (you will cross the international date line that is why so you go a day ahead) on the return you may land before you left. when i go from tokyo to dulles tomorrow i will land at 330 pm on mon the 17th, when i left tokyo at 4 pm on the 17th. (13 1/2 hr flight).
anyways movies books sleep, cards, knitting |

Well first of all... There is no flight by commercial airliner that will take 25 hours. The plane must stop by other airports. If your seat has a TV... Gaze at the screen... |

That long! Keep busy with the sweetest thing in life, sleep. Take a sleeping pill after consulting your family doctor, hoping you do not snore. You will miss your meals, but then there is a price for that convenience.
I for myself would compose a novel with a series of dialogue on my laptop by thinking of a plot before the flight.
There is another way, not pleasant, but the motive is served. Pick up a quarrel or two with the cabin attendants and then keep fuming; people like to fume longer than necessary in life. Ha ha!
Where were you when concord flights were common. You could have breakfast at both places, the points of departure and arrival. |

Oh geez! Talk about being bored. Bring some reading material and some crossword puzzles or Sudoku puzzles. Those will keep your brain thinking. Some airlines show movies. Hopefully, yours will. If you have a laptop, bring it and play solitare or something. Hope this helps. |

Book. Hand held game. Cards. Puzzle book. Take a nap. They should have an in flight movie. I pod or other player. Lap top is great for watching your own movies. Should be able to get it all into a tote bag instead of carrying a purse. A small enough tote and you can put it under your seat so you can change activities to suit your boredom. |

If you can.......SLEEP! If not , do you like crosswords or reading? Have any small electronic games like Blackjack or Yahtzee? The vista is always nice to look at. Maybe you will be lucky and have a nice person to talk to. It passes time. Write letters that you haven't had time to do or buy postcards at the airport to get ready to send. They might even have stamps.......not sure. Ask. Write about your adventures and things you have seen going to wherever you are going. Have a safe trip! Enjoy!
P.S. If you knit, crochet, cross-stitch, etc...............it would be a good time. Bring snacks and some water too.
You say we are going to Australia? That means you are going with someone. Talk to the person. Know that you will be passing many time zones and will have jet lag. Wow! Australia! Lucky you! I always wanted to go there? |

The airplane might have a TV attached to the seat in front of you. :) That's what I had when I went to Japan. But I also brought my iPod, cards, books, and I've seen some people bring a mini DVD player or a laptop. |

Buy or borrow a portable dvd player and buy or borrow a lot of dvd movies. If you like gaming, buy or borrow a gameboy or some portable gaming system. If you have a laptop, load some games up and bring it. If you like reading, grab some books from the bookstore. Get into crosswords or sudoku. |

Pack some things that allow you to be active and some that allow you to be passive, both will pass the time.
Active: crosswords, sudokus, update your diary, weed out the list of numbers in your cell phone (delete the people you have lost touch with), if you are creative, you may even want to write down ideas for stories you would want to write, or song lyrics, or maybe you can draw, then how about sketching some of your fellow travellers? Oh, and it can be fun mentally sroting out your wardrobe - deciding what you don't want any longer and who you could give it to.
Passive: first off, bring all the stuff that allows you to sleep comfortably - ear plugs, wolly socks, a sleeping mask. Other passive things: Listen to music (or audiobooks, isn't there a big volume you've always wanted to `read`?), watch movies, read.
In-between-activities: Bring some moisturizer and really work it into your hands. Make a deal with you to drink half a litre of water every hour. It'll keep your mind busy if you have tasks like that. |
