Yahoo

I havent ridden on a plane since I was a kid, and im afraid to do so now, ive forgotten what its like.?

I dont want to ride over 24 hours in a vehicle so I wanna start traveling by plane. And I know they say its the safest way to travel, but the way I see it, is if anything by chance does go wrong, its not like you can simply "pull over to the side of the road, and step out". I guess im just basically asking for words of encouragement, and experiences. Thank you.

i'm 15 and going to new york to go to school this summer, i haven't rode on a plane since i was like, 3 yrs. old. so, i'm terrified too. i'm sorry i don't any words of encouragement, but i do know how you feel. my nana told me to look at it this way, i told her i was afraid of falling out the sky, she said "so".
she said i could die any where, so if your gonna die, your gonna die, whether its slipping on water and going into a coma , or falling out the sky, she heck, i can stab you right here in my kitchen and you can die.
after she said that, it made total sense to me.
but i'm still taking a train,lol!

ITS NOT BAD. I HAVE FLOWN MANY OF TIMES. YOU HAVE TO WAIT TILL YOU ARE 30,000 FEET ABOVE GROUND TO LISTEN TO MUSIC OR WATCH DVDS ON PORTABLE DVD PLAYERS AND TO GET OUT OF YOUR SEAT. IF THEIR IS ALOT OF TURBULENCE YOU HAVE TO SIT IN YOUR SEAT WITH YOUR SEAT BELT ON. THEY PROVIDE YOU WITH A SMALL BOX OF LIKE COOKIES AND TRAIL MIX. ETC.

Today's planes are much smoother riding, and there are so
many diversions once you are up in the air, that you don't
have to stare out the window at a cloud mass anymore :).
The only difference I see today, is the longer wait for boarding and then waiting in the plane til the pilot (or co pilot) arrives with his sealed instructions for that flight. I have also heard but never experienced, that if there is some last minute glitch with something, it is checked again before
take off. This waiting often causes a rising temperature factor inside the cabin with the A/C turned off. It seems they don't turn that on, til the plane is about ready to take off. I never heard of that til after my grandson flew and he
was only 3 at the time. We waited in the airline lobby for
about an hour watching the plane sit there, and
for everything to be taken care of before it could taxi and
take off. I've heard this from others who have flown, and I guess they take more precautions now than ever before.. So the stress is on the ground, not in the air. Face your phobia
and win. You'll be glad you did.

I used to fly all over the US for my job & now I travel worldwide for fun with my travel club @earnvacations.com/buckleup. Pilots have very strict rules & guidelines to follow. They are experienced & I've always felt that they don't want to lose their life, so we're in good hands. Flying is fun once you get past all the security stuff, which is for our safety. Driving is probably the least safe mode of transportation. I do a lot of freeway driving; pretty crazy drivers out there. So fly & have fun!

Don't be afraid. You are very lucky to travel by plane. Just bring with you some menthols and when the plane is about to take off, just put that in your mouth to prevent from vomitting. I would suggest that you better stay by the window to see the beauty of nature once the plane takes off.
Have a nice trip! GOD will be there beside you to protect you.

My opinion may be a bit biased because I love planes, but here goes:

Don't worry a bit about flying in planes. It is literally more dangerous driving to the airport than going on the plane. These planes are also checked after every single flight- when is the last time your car had a check up? There is also far less traffic in the air, and planes can fly over, under, as well as to the side of other planes. In a car you can only go side to side, and limited to a road. There is also the matter of being over 30,000 feet in the air, which is even safer! On a car, if somehow the car flipped over or the brakes were not working properly the ground is just a couple feet below. On a plane it is over 30,000 feet below which allows room for recovery, and not all mistakes are life threatening. The pilots, I'm sure, are as concerned about their lives as you are of yours, and they will definitely be very highly trained contrasting some drivers which make you wonder how they even got past the first driving test.

The actual ride is quite smooth and uneventful. I personally could spend hours looking out the window watching the land or sea go by. The most tense part is the landing, because it almost looks like the plane is falling out of the sky. When the pilot retracts the flaps I usually feel a slight deceleration and feel almost weightless for a moment. Relax and enjoy the view if you have a window seat as the ground gets closer until the second just above the runway. Just remember, you most likely have a higher chance dying from biking or walking down the street!

The worst part is getting to - and through - the airport.

When I was a kid planes still had propellers...jets are much smoother/faster/safer.

Ive flown quite a bit and the first time i flew i was terrified. Now, I loveflying. The scariest time for me is at take off, but once youre up there its really great. Landing is awesome. Ive never had a bad flight. Just sit back and relax. Youll be fine. Enjoy.
