KLM may have codeshared with Northwest Airlines. Check your ticket. It may have a KLM flight number, but it will say operated by: Northwest.

From NWA.com, Please see link below for more information.

International Travel - between North America and Africa / Asia / Europe / India / Middle East)
Coach Class: Each ticketed passenger is allowed two (2) pieces of checked luggage.

Each piece: 50 pounds (23 kg) with linear dimensions not to exceed 62 inches (158 cm).
Exceptions for trans-Pacific travel wholly between U.S./Canada and the Philippines, China and Hong Kong, checked pieces may weigh up to 70 pounds (32 kg) each.
Checked luggage within the free 2 bag allowance that weigh more than 50 pounds and up to 70 pounds will be assessed a $50.00 heavy bag fee.
Checked luggage within the free 2 bag allowance whose linear dimensions exceed 62 inches will be assessed 2 excess baggage charges. See rate table.
(Applicable to Trans-Pacific travel between North America and Asia) Checked luggage within the free 2 bag allowance whose weight exceeds 70 pounds will be assessed 3 excess baggage charges.
See rate table.

Each airline has their own regulations. Go on their website, it should say it there.

Get on the website of the airline you are flying on. They usually have all of specifics. They even have the maximum measurements your luggage can be.

Check the website for your airline under luggage restrictions. Check the weight & length/width/height. For instance, I'm flying Lufthansa in June. Check-in luggage for coach seats are limited to 50 pounds & 62 inches. My airline allowed 75 pounds for business class & 90 or 95 pounds for 1st class.
Carry-on luggage for Lufthansa was limited to 18 pounds & dimensions similiar to a tote bag. They also allow me to a personal item such a purse, briefcase or laptop computer bag.

The maximum checked baggage allownace is 2 pieces, each at 50 lb(23 kg), and each with a total linear(length+width+height) of 62 inches. KLM's baggage policy is as follows:
Economy Class:50 lb(23 kg)
Business Class: 70 lb(32 kg), and two pieces per person.
Have a safe flight!

Airlines have substantially tightened up on their checked luggage policies. Most airlines now charge extra for suitcases weighing more than 50lbs, whereas until recently they'd carry suitcases weighing up to 70 lbs with no surcharge. And most airlines only allow two free pieces of luggage nowadays.

Not only have the airlines tightened up on what they'll carry for free, but they've now much more likely to charge you for the extras. In the past you were unlikely to be asked to pay, especially if the checkin staff were busy, but now you're probably have to pay the extra charges.

It is believed that some airlines pay their counter staff bonuses based on the amount of extra charges they levy on their passengers.

It varies from airline to airline..say which carrier your flying but most likely it will be 50Lbs and up to two bags...and wont be charged a fee internationally unless youre flying spirit airlines which does charge you a fee

Happy travels

It's usually 25 to 50 pounds, and 15 pounds for a carry on. I think its like $25 for every additional pound.
