I have experienced this before. Once I was travelling from San Francisco to Singapore and it was a near 12-midnight flight. For no rhyme or reason, they say it was delayed, and delayed further until 3pm the next day. It is kind of frustrating, and you should grab a drink, read some books, or perhaps if you have a computer, you can surf the net. If the airport you're at has quite a number of shops, you may want to wander around. Who knows? You might be able to buy a nice thing there.
