You can't. This isn't middle school where you can say my dog ate it.
This is money and business. Stop trying to screw the company over.
Unless you bought refundable tickets for airfare you can forget about it. There is no way in getting a refund. Usually the refundable airfare is about the same price as cheap nonrefundable business seats.
The hotel might give part of it, if you booked insurance and if the insurance covers the hotel stay. But usually it doesn't.

I dont think you will have any luck. I don't think that there is any excuse that they will except.

You have to show a death cirtificate for a "death" excuse. I had to cancell a trip when my grandfather died and they require proof. Otherwise everyone would do that.

If you don't have refundable tickets you aint getting any money back just Airline Credits and for the Hotel i no this first hand unless you do it a Month in advance you wont get a refund there either.

Tell them you have a sick child or because of job obligations you need to cancel. Most hotels will let you cancel without penalty as long as it is prior to 24 hours of check in.

u r Sol. u should get a partial refund from the hotel, but you're going to have to eat the flight.

They've heard it all before, trust me. My husband is one of those guys on the phone people lie to every single day at the airline and they can tell. They also document all that stuff and in some cases have taken people to court for fraud when breeching a contract with a lie and they were found out.

What's unfortunate is that you do not have the option of refunding your ticket. Discounted non-refundable fares are cheap for a reason. I'm sorry about your dilemma. The best I can recommend under the circumstances is you call and have your flight changed to another time/destination so you have the option of using it later on. The nicer you are to these folks the more willing they are to help you, they get treated like crap or are treated like they're stupid enough to fall for lies to get out of something all day, 5 days a week.. for years. They sense you BSing them and you'll be out of luck twice over with a note on your account stating your attempt.

Refundable fares are more expensive but worth it when there's a good possibility you cant make your flight.
