Of course you need an ID to get on. They dont allow random people on and they want to see who you are.

You can probably use your current school ID since you are under 18 for this trip. Make sure the school ID has your first, last name and a photo of you. Once you turn 18, you should apply for a CA state ID because I heard that if you are over 18, you cant use your school ID. It has to be a government issued ID. If you are flying by yourself and you dont have any photo ID, they probably wont let you on. They asked me for an ID when i flew to Alaska with a friend...was a younger than you.

You need a government issued photo ID to board as an adult. If you are underage, you may elect to fly without one, but you may be sunject to additional screening, per TSA regulations. Keep in mind that if you attend a local public high school, your student ID is valid if it has your photo on it..... public high schools issuing photo ID's = a photo ID issued by a government run agency.

Good answers above about how to get an ID.

I just wanted to add that the TSA has relaxed its ID requirements, and it's possible to fly without one.

From the TSA website:

Cooperative passengers without ID may be subjected to additional screening protocols, including enhanced physical screening, enhanced carry-on and/or checked baggage screening, interviews with behavior detection or law enforcement officers and other measures.

Go down to the Dept of Motor Vehicles and ask them about an official state ID. Not a driver's license, it is an identification only.

From the website: http://dmv.ca.gov/dl/dl_info.htm

DMV issues two types of ID cards. A regular ID card valid for six years, and a senior citizen ID card valid for 10 years. To qualify for a senior citizen ID card, you must be age 62 or older.

To apply for an ID card you will need to do the following:

* Visit a DMV office (make an Appointment(s) for faster service)
* Complete application form DL 44 (An original DL 44 form must be submitted. Copies will not be accepted.)
* Give a thumb print
* Have your picture taken
* Provide your social security number. It will be verified with the Social Security Administration while you are in the office.
* Verify your birth date and legal presence (you may use your California driver license)
* Pay the application fee. (No fee for a senior citizen ID card.)

Check your address before you leave DMV and tell the DMV representative if your address is incorrect. Your new ID will be mailed to you within 60 days. If you have not received your ID after 60 days, call 1-800-777-0133 to check the status. Have your receipt and/or old ID card with you to provide information when requested.

DMV will exchange a valid license for a no-fee ID card to drivers who are no longer able to drive safely because of a physical or mental condition. Please call your local DMV for additional information.

Yes- you must have a government-issued ID.

A passport, or a state-issued ID with a photo.

If you don't have one, you will not be able to board the aircraft.

Your local motor vehicle association can issue you an ID card at minimal cost (it's not a licence, just proof of age/ID).

Yes. You really need ID if you are over 18. No ID, no fly. A California issued identification card can be obtained at your local Division of Motor Vehicles office.
