I thought airlines cared about the passengers. Why do the stews all have unsmiling faces and bad attitudes?

Just like the pilots. They can't drink on duty. If you catch one smiling it's because they've downed a few of those little booze bottles.

First of all, no one calls airline flight attendants "stews" anymore.

Think about this: If you were flying around different time zones for up to 16 hours a day in an aluminum pencil 37,000 feet high dealing with rude, loud, and whiny passengers..you'd be upset as well.

That's just one of the reasons. The second is that all flight attendants have been through a lot lately in terms of cutting costs and losing some of their benefits. That's enough to make anyone "not smile."

I'm not sure where you work, but you still deal with cusotmers at some point. Do you always smile? Probably not. Not all flight attendants hate their job or never smile.

That all depends on the airline. If you are flying for a carrier that treats you right, then you'll in turn be happier.

Depends upon the airline. Not all airline cabin crew members are like that. Some of them can be charming.

I fly almost 100 times a year, and quite literally, the ONLY time I have encountered unfriendly service is on United Airlines. Obviously sometimes it's better than others, but United is the only UNfriendly airline. Usually I fly American Airlines or USAirways and I've never had rude service at all.

Perhaps it is hard to remain smiling if the traveling public is so rude. Also, the airlines themselves are having trouble. Just look at all of the delays with flights being canceled and/or delayed.

I doubt that they "all" are unsmiling and have bad attitudes, but perhaps many do because being a flight attendent is not as glamorous as many people think it is. It is just plain work! They may be poorly treated by their employers, have unsatisfactory working conditions. In an effort to keep ticket prices down, airlines cut costs everywhere and this affects the flight attendents too.

airlines cares for there passengers. they really do, because for them 1 passenger that is satisfied of his/her flight will tell his/her friends and those friends will tell there friends it like a no cost advertisement for them. for the stews well some are good some are not so good. some smile and some don't. may be the stew had a problem with 1 of the passenger before you saw him/her.
