I want to go on holiday. How can I overcome a fear of flying?

If its a must that you have to fly to go on holiday, try destinations that are not to far away, shorter flights are going to be easier for you.
you could also have a word with your doctor to see what they suggest.

That's why I always take my parachute and diving suit with me.
You will not die until is your time to die whatever you do or don't. At least the way you die will be on a telly...and in newspapers...around the world. How nice is that?
Repeat to yourself: I am scared of fear, but not of flying. There is nothing to be feared but the fear itself.

You just have to go for it regardless of your fear and tell yourself you'll never see the world if you don't be brave. Alternatively, if you have money to spare you can attend a short course that helps people like yourself and they take you on a short flight to help you conquer your fear. I too am afraid of flying. Go to the doctor and get a prescription for vallium. It won't take away your fear completely but will definitely make it easier for you to relax and even maybe enjoy the flight. You only live once. Go see some of world. Good luck!

I am sure that we never really overcome the fear of flying we jjust deside that the only way to get any where in a resonable time is to fly so we try to overcome it.

I tend to try to forget that I am flying by getting into a good book or watching the film. Mind you when I watch the film at a later date its like I have never watched it LOL.

You could ask your doctor for a mild tranquliser as that can help. I definately do not recommend alcohiol as that will dehydrate you and cause other problems. Remember to move your legs as much as possible while flying as your blood thickens and this can lead to a DVT, Hope all goes well I am in the same boat with a trip to bulgaria in a few weeks I just try not to focas on the flying bit of the holiday

You purchase a meditation audio that says:

"I am loving and strong enough, I love others and am strong enough, and I am loved and I am strong enough." - with soothing music in the background and listen to it on your I Pod over and over again.

It will work.

well, there's nothing we can do here. Being afraid to planes is an issue that you should talk to your therapist.
