Books are great but they can get boring after so long. You could bring a travel dvd player and some great dvd's that will pass a couple of hours. Or another great thing although it may seem kind of lame is learn to knit or crochette buy a teach your self book buy some needles and yarn and try something new. But first make sure they will let you bring knitting needles on the plane! |

They should show two movies on the plane and they are usually current movies that have just finished showing in the theaters. They should also feed you twice. So, between the movies and the meals, take a nap. If you still want to read, try Memoirs of a Geisha. It takes about four or five chapters to warm up, but then you won't be able to put it down. P.S. Although the headphones suck, at least they are free on international flights! |

Do you like puzzle books like sudoku or crosswords? I read Da Vinci Code in about 18 hours, same with HP5 and 6.
There are also electronic handheld games you can bring, sudoku, poker, yatzee etc, you can usually find them at walgreens for under ten bucks.
I took a 3 day trip by train across the country, and we had to get dang creative with our time. If there are others travelers in it for the long haul, you might be able to get games going that play well in close quarters and aren't too loud. Uno is great, as are many easy card games. Pictionary is good for planes because you can get people next to each other as a team, and have one team control the board then just play team by team. Just some ideas off of the top of my head. |

I've made those flights several times, and everytime I just try to sleep...remember, you're going ahead in time...you need as much rest as possible. Otherwise, theres always in-flight movies you could watch. Have fun!! |

A small electronic game, talking books (to listen to on cassette or CD), relaxation tape, puzzle books, knitting (oops, no knitting needles allowed on board), write in a journal, get to know your seatmate and hope they are a good conversationalist. |

Sleep. Take an antihistamine if those make you sleep, or just stay up all night before the flight (always works for me). Makes the time pass faster plus you'll be well rested once you get there.
I can't recommend any books as you didn't give any information about what kind of books you like. Not that I'd be able to help anyway as I'm dyslexic so anything that's written above about a 6th grade reading level is too much work for me to find it enjoyable. But whatever books you're interested in. I don't know, maybe you're someone who can sit and read for thirteen hours (my limits about an hour), but you'll probably want something else to do as well cause thirteen hours is a really long time.
They'll show movies on the flight. Bring headphones, though, as airplane headphones universally suck (especially the ones that clip on to your ear as they're really way to heavy for that). If you have a laptop, you can watch a DVD or two of your own, depending on battery life.
Knit, or if you don't already know how, get a learn to knit book. Just be sure you have either plastic or wood needles as the might take medal ones away at security. Or whatever other crafts your in to that don't require a lot of space or sharp objects would work too.
If you're still in school and have homework, or aren't in school but have any paper work or anything you can do for work, a long flight is a great time to do it.
Any sort of paper-based puzzles are good. Things like crossword puzzles, etc. Try to magazine section of your look bookstore or supermarket for some kind of puzzle book.
If you have a gameboy or whatever other hand-held electronic games that's a good thing to do on an airplane. |
