Unless somebody has discovered a big secret... there really isn't one, it's all hype. Most of the sites like travelocity and the William Shatner site just show you a list of flights from various airlines from cheapest to most expensive based on your travel dates and times. That's all they really do. |

The websites are all the same for the most part as it is mostly luck of the draw. I travel all of the time and most travelers say the same thing that I will...... more often than not if you try the actual websites of the actual airline you will find way cheaper fares.
So go to travelocity and such and take a look. Then go to the airline sites and see. It also depends a whole lot on where you are going, if you are willing to make a stop and most especially what time of day or night you are willing to fly. Pick an unpolpular time either super early or late always saves a bundle.
And whatever airline you pick go to the airline website and sign up for whatever frequent flyer program they have. Even if you have never flown with them when it comes to bumping because the flight is overbooked, putting you up in a hotel, getting a better seat or whatever having a member number goes a long way. |

Sign up for webdeals from the airline or call your travel agent who can get good rates from a consolidator, it will save you time from going to expedia, orbitz etc who only have published fares....your travel agent will source out a NET and then mark it up. |

I always got my tickets online, but the last time I went to a travel agent, a former parent of a student of mine and she got me way cheaper and better tickets. You might want to consider that too when comparing. |

I sometimes find that if you go directly to an airlines website, you can find much cheaper flights. For instance When i used travelocity to try to find a flight to the philippines last dec, the cheapest price was 1700. When i went directly to china airlines website, they had a flight for 1150. |
