IS IT SAFE TO FLY with BRITISH AIRWAYS?

It seems a plan has dropped out of the sky as power was lost. Is it safe to fly with these people? Should I fly with Virgin Atlantic instead? Is this safety better? Fanks

If anything the incident at Heathrow would make me more inclined to choose British Airways than another carrier for two reasons:
1) If the reports are true, that the plane lost all power and had to be glided in to land, then the Pilot should be hailed a hero and it highlights the skill level of British Airways pilots to have brought the plane down without any loss of life under those conditions.
2) British Airways will be focusing intently on maintenance, checking and re-checking whether maintenance of the plane had anything to do with this and the result will be that all their planes will be getting additional checks - making them safer than ever...

Accidents can happen on any airline - happy flying!

it's as safe as any other airline...these things happen on occassions - not just with BA

Any plane can crash,if it's your time, well then it's your time.

of course it is no one died only 3 minor injuries thanks to the skill of the pilots so yes it is safe to fly B.A

I only fly BA ........and I'm here - so , it must be as safe as the others! :)

Well, said Alberto
British Airways have a superb safety record, as do Virgin. Both are perfectly safe.

ethansma24
Emergencies can happen on any type of aircraft, at any time. It's a chance you take when you fly....just like every time you get into a car. Just remember, the crew goes through a lot of training to handle these types of situations, every year.

The Tank
How do you know that power was lost?

At the moment nobody other than the flight deck crew know what happened. Anything else is pure speculation. If it's in the media then it will also be slanted towards the sensationalism anyway.

I can think of at least three plausible causes for what happened, any of them could have happened to any airline.

Please wait until the results of the enquiry are published and ONLY then will we know what caused the accident. Please do not go around thinking that this was caused by bad aeroplane maintenance or poor piloting. We don't know.

Incidentally, British Airways is probably one of the safest airlines that the world has in operation. Pity about their on-board catering on short haul.

Alex W
Yes, BA is as safe as every other airliner out there.
However, my best ever flight experience was from Gatwick to [can't remember the airport name] in Florida.
It was with Thomson Fly.
We even got strawberry choc-ices and extra leg room, [and comfier seats] on the flight thanks to a very cheap (£50) upgrade!

Nick B
An accident could happen at any time on any airline so it makes no difference what airline you fly.

From memory this is the first serious accident that BA have had for around 35 years.

BA have the best in-flight service of any European carrier and is far better than Virgin.

beetlebug
OF COURSE...Yet again proved to be the safest form of travel

grumpy geezer
BA is just fine. Right now I wouldn't hesitate to book with them. Everybody over there is probably paying a lot more attention to what they're doing than they did yesterday.

sarasmileshine
I think BA has one of the lowest accident rates, actually. I'm not sure about Virgin though; you should check online which of the two is best.

markjlayne
The plain hasn't dropped out of the sky it crashed on landed 100m from the runway. It is completly safe to fly with British Airways all there aircraft meet the expectations of the authorities, as do all airlines that operate out of Britain. Accidents happen. You have nothing to worry about.

Fed up UK Citizen
Yeah BA is cool infact they are about the only business represanting Britian that has a good history like M&S in a way....

Carousel
I'm flying this week with BA from Heathrow. I must admit it's the first problem they've had like this for 30 years so I ask you, what's the worry!!

Aero
Nothing is 100% safe. Air travel is still one of the safest forms of travel.

s c
fly with another airline, Delta
