Definately Not!
Don't worry;
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/7468966.stm
I hope this helps you understand how stupid rumours can get out of hand :)
A very simular experiment has been going on for 8 years in New York as it says there. And that one was seen as even more fatal. But we are still here aren't we? The exact same rumours were said about the one in New York one when it first begun.
Also; do you really think Dr. Stephen Hawkins would want to end the planet? Aka. The most intelligent man on the planet. Honestly; The only people saying that are stupid and just love to scare people. That includes the press.
Now there has been MANY things like this.
Think about all those people who lived throughout the cold war? my father did, and he used to worry himself sick. But even that didn't end the world.
Listen to the Scientists who know what they're doing!
It's only a tiny replicure of a black hole anyway. Promised to be impossible to "Swallow the entire planet"
Live a Loong happy life.

Were not going to die, don't worry, many people have been slightly mislead by the info they hear about this event so here's what's actually going on :
Its a machine called the Large Hadron collider that is 17 miles long.
Its a particle collider designed to smash sub-atomic particles at a speed very close to the speed of light to re-create the big bang 11,000 times a second to find out if the Higgs particle truly exists and to possibly find out some more things that we didn't know before.
There is a bigger chance of you winning the jackpot of the lottery than a black hole appearing during the experiment.

Of course its true. You read it here on Yahoo Questions and Answers didn't you, so therefore it must be correct.
Now be sensible and stop worrying. |

I thought it was Sweden? I think it is a real experiment but it won't end the world. |

It's not France, it's in Lucerne in Switzerland. And it's not really to recreate the big bang, it's a machine that kind of smashes up atoms. There's about a one in fifty million chance that it could create a black hole. I'll warn you if it happens, I live in Switzerland so if we all get sucked in I'll be one of the first to know.
I wish everyone would stop panicking about this and get their facts straight. |

No chance apparently. |

Scientists had a fear that the first atomic bomb test might cause a run-away chain reaction, and destroy the atmosphere.
Science as progressed just a wee bit since 1945.
It's neither true, nor a sick joke. It's just runaway imaginations. |
