If I purposely miss my connecting flight because of too little time in between....? |
I will be going to Colorado from Florida in June, on the return flight we will be stopping in Tennessee, My daughter’s grandparents live in Ohio and were going to come down to the airport and pick her up so she can stay at their place for the rest of the summer. Any flight plan I have found with decent rates only has a 30 minute layover in Tennessee, so if I know that there will be no way of making my connecting flight will they stick me on the next available flight?? |

Ok, I'm going to take a stab in the dark, because I think I understand what you're doing, but I'm not entirely sure.
You want your daughter's grandparents to pick her up at the airport in TN but you don't think you'll have enough time to drop her off with them and then make it to your connection?
If that is the case, you can ask your airline if your daughter's grandparents can get a gate pass so they can meet you at the gate when you get to TN. They would have to go to the ticket counter at the airport and show proper ID would get a gate pass, which looks like a boarding pass without a seat assignment. Once they have a gate pass they would go through security and meet you at the gate.
If they can't get a gate pass you could ask if there is an airline employee who could walk your daughter to a meeting place (baggage claim, ticket counter, etc) where she could meet up with her grandparents. |

I think you will be on standby. |

I understand what your situation is, but I am also going to be very honest!
Everyone is purchasing the cheaper ticket with the minimal connection time to save money! Look, you have got to be realistic! There just might be ground delays for various reasons...weather,mechanical, traffic, etc. Be prepared and informed as a passenger and plan accordingly!
If you choose to miss your flight....you are now on standby for the next one! This means you will be accommodated if there are seats available. Don't think that the airline is responsible and owes you a seat. |

Yes, but you can call the airline to make sure. |

Some connecting flights only have 30 min connecting times depending on the airports you connect in. These flights are usually located in the same terminal you arrive into and are able to make your connection. You did not say what airline your were traveling on or if you were connecting in Memphis,Nashville or another city in Tn.
In the event your flight is DELAYED, the airline will reaccommodate you on an alt flight depending on avail seating. If you PURPOSELY miss your flight (and you had enough time to connect)and then show up at the tkt counter or gate for the next avail flight, it's up to the fare rules of your flight whether or not you will be reaccommodated.
Some fares require a change fee, some do not allow standby, and some are not valid at all if you no-show your connecting flight.
I would call the airline you are booked on to get the fare rules of the flight and see what they say or advise you. |

Not always, they will try to get you to the next available flight, depending on the capacity of the plane. If it is booked then they will keep bumping you back or ask if they can route you through another city. BUt usually they try to be as accomodating as possible. But there are a few horror stories out there. |

What you are doing is very risky. If the flight from Florida is delayed or canceled, the airline can re-route you through another city. And you would have no right to insist on going through Tennessee. |

You have to be responsible. Most airlines are not on time these days. If you miss your flight the airline could put you on another one, but you would be on standby and be their last priority. With they way airlines over sale their flights these days, I believe it would be extremely hard to get a flight after you miss yours. Just be responsible and get the connecting flight. If not and you CHOOSE to miss your flight, you deserve what you get. |
