If a passenger is so large, they take up more than one seat, should they pay for two?

Additional Details
Why should the airline allow that extra person (other half) to fly for free?

There is nothing wrong with this, after all you are paying them to provide you with a service, and if you are so large that you do not allow them to fill the plane to capacity, then you should have to pay. They do not have to let you ride in their planes; in a capitalist society, no company should have to suffer financially when offering a service to consumers.

Is it wrong morally? Probably, but then again, if you have a problem with a company's policies why use their service? It is a free country.

Fly B
An airplane is not a bus, nor a train, nor a pick-up truck. You can't just give seats away, or pack people in without consequence. Taking up an extra seat on a full flight means you're taking away the ability for another passenger to fly, and taking away the ticket revenue of a full paying passenger. If you require two seats, you should pay for two seats.

What some airlines are doing is offering the second seat free if the flight is not full. Others offer the second seat at a discounted rate. Both of these methods cater to as many people as possible, and imo, is the right way to go.

Well if they are taking up a seat that is not there's how is the other person supposed to sit in it. I think all airlines require large people to purchase 2 seats if they're going to encroach on or crowd the space next to them.

JonEff
YES.

More weight means the aircraft needs more fuel. Why should other passengers pay the bill for fatty who cant stop eating.

Ryan
some airlines will require that a larger person will have to purchase a second seat, especially on smaller aircraft.

DEFINITIVELY!

Why are you asking this question when you yourself know the answer to it? Subjective to personal opinion.

But if you want my opinion; then its No. It is morally wrong to charge someone for their disability which may not have been caused by intention.

From an economic perspective, go for it. You better hope the economists and executives at these airlines are obese themselves, not that they fly economy class in the first place.

No even if they are big it doesnt matter thats what this world is all about. We cant all be the same person. They should only pay for one...if its that big of a deal just start making your seats bigger.

drageefly_416
NO! this is so wrong in so many ways. they should give the person an extra seat.
This is discrimination.. would be like them telling an indian person they can not fly for the fear of terrorism. It is WRONG!
