If you were going 125 miles in 15min in an airplane how do you figure how fast the plane is flying? |

Speed, when we are talking about airplanes, cars etc., is usually calculated in miles per hour: mph.
Now you have 15 min which is 1/4 of an hour
I means you have 125 miles multiplied with 4 ( 4/4 of an hour = 1 hour = 60 min )
which is 500mph |

Your groundspeed was 125miles/15min or 500miles/60min which is 500 mph.
For airspeed you would have to know the direction of the wind and its speed, not to mention that airspeed and groundspeed are both generally in knots, not mph, for air travel.
But I figure you just wanted to know groundspeed in mph for homework or something. In which case, you make a fraction or ratio like I did above and then multiply both the top and bottom until you have per-60-minutes which is per-hour |

This question is related to the fact that Speed = Distance / Time.
In these situations time is normally expressed in hours, so 15 mins = 0.25 hr
So, speed = 125 miles / 0.25 hr = 500 miles per hour (mph) |

It depends on whether you're in a two-seater at 80mph, a 727 at 300 mph, or say a Beech 4 engine private jet. Depends. |
