Better to live fast and die young than never 'live' at all ...!!!
Having said that, the way you're feeling is perfectly normal.
As to the answer to your question, it would depend of course, on what went wrong, you only have to look at the recent incident at Heathrow Airport to know that a plane can loose all its power and still land safely. I don't suppose most of us EVER know the number of problems fixed in the air. But I'm sure it happens routinely and gets fixed.
Stop worrying and enjoy your holiday. |

Travel by air has been proved through statistics to be the safest and fastest form of moving cargo and people that has been developed. Thousands of flights take off and land daily all over the world, and very few crash. The only thing I worry about is 'clear air turbulence' which can toss you around some if you are not belted in your seat. Talk to others who have flown a lot (surely you know of someone who has) and see what they have to say about air travel. Good luck and happy trails. |

You are much more likely to be in a car accident on the way to the airport than to have any problem on the plane. It is normal at your age to begin to question you own mortality, and all the more reason to make healthy life choices. Talk to your parents about your fears, and if they seem unsympathetic, talk to a school counseler. |

Flying is scary - it's not what humans are designed for. But it's the safest way of getting from one place to another. You are far less likely to die in an aeroplane than you are off it. You get a comfortable seat and people to look after you.
Passenger aircraft are the most carefully checked machines in the world - they get more checks than life support machines in hospitals. If something does go seriously wrong, the plane is still likely to land safely (not necessarily where you want to land, but safely). When planes do crash, people usually survive. |

areoplanes like never go wrong, they're statisically the safest form of travel, and if anything goes wrong they'll probably be able to glide onto a runway somewhere or land in the sea and it'd be fine.

Hi,
I'm 19 years old and I am a British navy Pilot. I love my job and most of all I love the aircraft I fly. What you must remember is that every one gets scared before they fly, even the pilots, but more so the passers as you need to put your trust in the pilot and the aircraft. But think of it this way, you are sitting in a million pound aircraft and there are two pilots who have trained very hard and are tested every 6 months, so you are in good hands. I'm not going to say nothing ever happens, yes of course some accidents happen but you are more likely to be killed walking to school every day or even going shopping with your friends.
If something does go wrong then the pilots will be using all their skills to try and fix the problem as well as getting a huge amount of help from people on the ground.
For example people think that if an aircraft's engine fails then the aircraft will simply fall from the sky, but the fact is the pilot will try and restart the engine. If you need any more information you can send me an email to nathanraman@hotmail.com
hope this helps |

It's been proven that you're more likely to survive a plane crash than a car crash. If you're worried tell the person at the check-in desk and they'll be able to have someone who can check on you during the flight. Tell your parents as well, they can't help you if you don't tell them.
hope this helps =] |

flying is so nice...I use to be scared- but take a window seat and it will feel like you are only looking at a beautiful moving picture.:)
flying is like the safest mode of transportation so don't worry- just relax and enjoy your holiday-Im sure you will enjoy the flight. Many people are scared of flying, you are not alone.
just enjoy your holiday and dont worry about the flight. you will be safe and with your parents who I'm sure won't let anything bad happen to you:)
After you fly once- you will want to do it everyday:)
good luck and have an enjoyable holiday:) oh and as a back up plan- take a sleeping pill or a tranquilizer-xanax-before the flight. |

Time to face your fear! I used to be DEATHLY afraid of airplanes. I would have panic attacks on them. Thing is, you have to face fears in life. Once you get over it, you'll have fun flying. |

I totally sympathesise. As said above, they statistically are the safest form of travel, but when they crash, the mortality rate is high. I have wondered myself what scares me most - being catapulted thousands of feet into the air, or coming back down. But the way I see it is this. I'm not going on no plane, crazy fool! |

I have the same problem, and will not fly at all. The chances of the plane crashing are extremely remote. Statistically, it is one of the safest ways to travel.
However, if something does happen, you have no control over the situation at all.
In a coach crash, car crash or train crash there are always survivors. Not so with plane crashes.
If you do not want to admit a fear of flying, say you do not want to leave a huge carbon footprint.
Check out train travel, you can get just about anywhere quickly by train. We went over night from Paris to Rome last year.
Not as cheap as cut price airlines, but more fun I'm sure.
Check out www.seat61.com for rail travel, or stay in the UK!! |
