Yours is a very common feeling. Most people are at least a little nervous about flying, and the syndrome ranges from this to absolute paralysis in a few cases.

There are counseling services that can help people overcome this feeling. You can probably Google up some of them. Plenty of time 'til Christmas to work on it.

I won't try to change your mind here. There are others that can be more help. But I will say a few things anyway. I'm a (very) old pilot and have no hesitation getting on any U,S. passenger air carrier. Their crews, equipment, and standards are the best in the world, and their safety record is unmatched.

I dread going to the airports however - crowded, noisy, rotten overpriced food, long treks to gates, long lines, rude people, sick children blowing snot on me... Even with all that, I would do it before I'd passage the Caribbean in a small boat! I lived in the Catibbean for many years and seen the boats - and their crews. No way.

Yes, you have to fly. I used to fly all the time, but will not fly since 9/11. I am not as much afraid of flying as crashing! lol
There are so many places to plan a vacation that do not involve flying, like Niagara Falls for example! Don't stress yourself out on vacation by having to fly if your are fearful, it will just spoil it.

Ok first off.

I used to be scared of flying.
Did you know you're actually more likely to die in a car crash that in a plane???

Flying is the SAFEST FORM of travel.

I am a plane enthusiast so i know all about planes.

They are very safe and the experience is unbeleiveable.

You're boats more likey to sink, rather than your plane crashing

Think about it! :]

You don't want to take a boat to the Caribbean or Hawaii. It would take forever to get to Hawaii. And the price to hire a boat for that trip would be so high it wouldn't be worth it. The Caribbean is closer, but it would still take so long to reach the destination that you would be wasting precious vacation days.

My suggestion is to work on your fear of airplanes. The big jets are smooth. If they hit wind pockets and the ride is bumpy, it's temporary. And it's not as bad as riding in a car over a pot hole covered road. Just my opinion, but I'd work on my fear of flying before I'd spend the time and money to hire boats.

P.S. We would make a good pair of friends. I don't mind flying, but hate getting on a boat because they are so unsteady. I've been on two cruises and just prefer planes.

Yeah, you have to fly. Taking a small boat would take a very, very long time.

I recommend taking a trip to somewhere nearby on a plane first. Maybe take a trip with a 20-30 minute flight. Then you will know more of what it is like. Your doctor can also give you something to relax you. Flying isn't bad.

Hey T....!

I have flown.... about 750,000 Miles.... in my Lifetime as I was... "Platinum Medallion Frequent Flier"... on Delta Airlines!

I also flew MOST... of the Major Airlines !

FLYING... is the Safest WAY TO GO !

Thanks for Asking ! RR

??Nick J is off the chain??
well no you don't have to fly. you can drive to florida (for carribbean) or california (for hawaii) then take a cruise. and they'll most likely provide boat rides to the different islands. cruises are fun.

It depends where you are. There are a few places you could
charter a boat. There are more cruise ships, so you could
get a cruise out of it and a visit out of it. If you wanted to go
to a few places that could get tough, just check with them and see if one has a cruise that would take you too the places you want to go. Or just visit one place each year and you would have to pay for only one cruise. Good luck with your
trip and I hope you have fun.

pikago5001
if you are afraid of flying try to get these planes on your trip
boeing 777
boeing 767
boeing 727 <= rare these days
Airbus a330
Airbus a340
these are wide body planes meaning they have a center set of seats and try to get one over the wing

Dude.. there is an extremely higher risk of being in a boat than on an aeroplane.

Your chances of being run over tomorrow, being in a train crash, falling out of a building, slipping in the shower and breaking your neck, or being shot are infinitely higher than being in a plane crash.
You do life risking things every day, you just don't think about them because you're used to them.

Think about this, how many plane flights are made every single day in the world?
Thousands.
How many crash every day?
None.

I feel the exact same way about airplanes. I have flew before but after 9-11 I will not get on one.
