the traffic in the air iis much less..also..compare the airccraft accidents to automobile accidents...
your chance of crashing in an airplane are much less than if you are driving down the road ! |

You could ask your doctor for something to calm you down. I have to do that whenever I fly. |

Oh man. I was like you, too. I was terrified of flying but then I took a 3 hour flight from Florida to New York for the first time last week(i came back to Fl yesterday), and it was NOT so bad- At All. Just relax. Bring something you can do on the plane to keep you busy like an MP3 player, portable dvd player or laptop.Once you do it, it's actually kind of fun and thrilling. Remember that you are more likely to get in a car accident on the way to the airport then a plane to malfunction and crash. The chances of a plane crashing is like one in a billion....or is it one in a million...? Whatever, but take it easy. Good luck! |

Flying is one of the safest way to travel. Bring something to distract your self, such as a book or MP3 player. If you are still afraid there are things you can take so you can sleep the whole way. You can also look in to other ways of travel such as train or bus.
Good Luck |

Try having a cocktial or two before you get on the plane. I'm not saying get plastered or anything just one or two to relax you.Read a magazine, book or watch the movie they provide. Make sure you bring gum that you can chew because your ears might pop or from the altitude. If you chew gum it helps the pressure. |

Get over it! Nobody has died on a plane. haha, just kiddin.
Think that it is something normal that a lot of people do it everyday. If this is really difficult for you I recommend you to get a good psychoanalyst. |

Okay, been there, done that!! I had never ever been on a plane before, and my hubby asked me "where do you want to go on your first plane ride: Mall of America, or Hawaii". So I naturally I said Hawaii because I am not much of a shopper. Soooo, back in May of '99, we flew from Det, Mich all the way to Honolulu, Hawaii!!
Know what I did??? I brought some Word Search Puzzle books, some paperback books, a bag of bubble gum, and other snacks!! One thing though, do not look out when you first take off or beginning to land. And do not close your eyes! I closed my eyes, and my stomach started to do "flip flops"!!
Ever since that first time, I love to fly, and we have been to Hawaii five times!!
So, relax, think good thoughts, bring your bubble gum, word search puzzle books, or whatever you enjoy doing!! You will be fine, I guarantee it!! Take care and have a nice flight!! |

oh jeez. have you ever flown before? if you havent, how do you know you are afraid? if you have, just take a sleeping pill right before you get on and it will relax you. have some alcohol on board too if you you are still crazy. But the key is to never give yourself an excuse not to get on. Commit yourself. |

What? you never been or don't actually like flying?
when I am on high building I get scared
when I fly (been to Bangkok & Manilla lots of times) I am not connected to the ground, so I am not scared
when the plane taxies and takes off just relax and go with it
when the plane starts to come down and your ears feel pressure in them just hold your nose and blow - not hard or fast - just a sustained blow, might take 10 secs, until you feel the pressure back in your ears. you might have to do this 5 times coming down, maybe you do it just once, or not at all. then your ears will not hurt and you will not go 'deaf' for an hour after landing.
the big jets are smooth and very safe. |

See your doctor to get something to relieve your anxiety during the trip. Some low dose valium or xanax will help keep you calm. Get some of the "Ear-Planes" ear plugs that will help you with the noise and possible pain associated with cabin pressure. They relieve ear discomfort, popping & pain while flying. Take a book, magazine, portable DVD player, laptop computer, or something to keep you occupied during the flight. Don't worry. Flying is very safe. You will be fine! |

I was the same way. What really helped me was learning about airplanes. How they work, what sounds I should expect to hear, what turbulence is, safety precautions, etc. All that good stuff. Once you learn that turbulence doesn't mean that the plane is going to crash, or that the engines cutting back once you take off isn't a big deal, your mind will be a lot more at ease. I also recommend taking lots of things with you to distract you from thinking too much about the flight. Listen to music, and look through some magazines. Fill your mind with images and sounds so that you aren't thinking too much about the flight itself.
I really recommend www.fearofflying.com to help answer any questions you might have about flying.
Here's a final idea: ask someone to think about you while you're on your flight. Sometimes it helps to know that there is someone on the ground who has you in mind so that you have more of a connection with "the real world" and don't just feel like you're alone flying through the air in some big tube. I know that sounds kind of crazy, but personally I think it's kind of a comforting idea.
I'll be flying next Wednesday evening (nine hour flight!) but if you want me to keep you and your flight in mind, or if you need to talk, just let me know. Relax, and good luck. I'm sure you'll be fine :) |

I was terrified of flying and we were coming to live in Australia from the UK. So i went to my doctor and he gave me a pill to take about 20 mins before I board the plane. he said that all this pill does is to stop your heart racing and therefore avoiding panic. I didn't have much faith in the pill though but took it as directed.
I also told the staff that I was afraid to fly and they were really helpful and good with me.
However after taking the pill I really didn't feel any panic at all and managed to take the second half off the journey without pill.
I would suggest that you DON'T get a window seat though! |

This is what i did when I had to fly all by myself for the first time. I was terrified also.
LUCKILY......a VERY good looking guy came and sat down beside me ! YES !
I told him I was nervous, first time flyer.
We had a couple of drinks...alcohol. hehe
that helped me !
My hands were shaking and he held my hand, how sweet.
Ummmm......get someone to go with you.....that is a frequent flyer or hope you get a good looking guy to sit with you like me..........................if you are a girl that is. :-) |

Relax, think about something else, chew some gum when arriving and departing and just try to go to sleep. At least that's what I do and I'm going on a plane to New Jersey on Thursday. |

Read information about flying. I'm afraid to fly, but I have made several trips and it's been OK. Educate yourself about safe travel, and what to do in an emergency. Then take deep breaths, visualize that everything will be fine, and enjoy the flight. Realize that it's just fear talking. |
