My daughter suffers too. I give her Stugeron travel sickness pills about 12 hours before a flight and then again 2 hours before flight. On the advise from our GP. This really does help her calm down. Another thing you could try is bach's rescue remedy. Both of these are available in most chemists.

Mr Smart
Do you think you will be able to sleep duing the flight?

Try to get a window seat, bring an inflateable traveler's pillow, lean your head against the cabin and try sleeping to take your mind off your concerns.

Baby_Gal
Request for a window seat and the 1st window seat in the aisle! It does help as I suffer for the same and i have managed 9 hours flight!

If you can, too, see if you can opt for either a seat behind what's called a bulkhead (the block between first/economy class or around a galley/toilet) or an emergency exit - these seats on an airliner tend to have more room and are obviously a better choice if you are claustrophobic!

I don't think you'll feel any worse at night...the cabin lights are dimmed but not off and often, the flight crew will marginally bump up the heating - not to make it hot but just a bit warmer to help induce drowsiness in the passengers and let you sleep.

Plus, in many ways, night is a better time to fly. :-) Weather wise, there is much less to no convective turbulence, and the flight won't waste time in the air holding overhead the destination for traffic, due to the much quieter time at night.

As a commercial pilot myself, I often find the calm, sedate night flying conditions are more soothing to anxious passengers than the daytime - so you may find yourself better off! With a dimmed cabin, you're less acutely aware of the actual confines of the space, too.

If all else fails, get up and walk around. There's plenty of headroom and walking will help you reassure yourself that there's plenty of space on the plane - you're not tied into your seat! Also, regarding seatbelts - always leave them done up, but once the seatbelt light goes off, loosen it a bit. It'll still be perfectly safe, but it won't hold so tight around your waist and will help you feel less constricted too.

Good luck! :-) You're doing well to face it!

Do you drink?
Have a couple to relax.

Just take a valium and you will be fine.

The best thing to do is to stay calm. Try to go to sleep-- maybe try taking Benadryl to ease that along. If you feel really uncomfortable with sleeping on the plane, then bring an iPod or a good book, and try to forget about the fact that you're on a plane. Once you're on, it's easy to forget, since you don't really feel that you're moving or anything. If you can, in a bulkhead seat to maximize your space. Just relax and you'll do fine :)

maybe you can just fall asleep once u get on

Your doctor should be able to give you a mild sedative to calm you down. That's what I did. And try to get an aisle seat so you can put your leg out into the aisle to feel a little more space. Bring things to occupy your mind... books, magazines, crosswords, sudoku, word searches, your favorite snacks, etc.

If I made it to London and back, you can make it 3 hours!
