statistically. flying in a plane is safer than being in a car

jerry_seinfeld_in_bee_movie
"Your chances of being involved in an aircraft accident are about 1 in 11 million. On the other hand, your chances of being killed in an automobile accident are 1 in 5000. Statistically, you are at far greater risk driving to the airport than getting on an airplane. However, the perception is that you have more control over your fate when you are in your car than as a passenger traveling on an airplane. Experience shows otherwise, considering that over 50,000 people are killed on the highways every year."

You should check out the website in the sources box. It could help you get over your fear of flying. =)

more people crash in cars than on planes. Despite the recent crashes in NY and over in Europe this morning, dont worry

Grundoon
You have a greater chance of being run down by a car tonight.
Planes are statistically the safest method of travel.
Relax, enjoy your flight and try humbugs...they're delicious

Just take your Bible and involve yourself in serious and heartfelt prayer.

And yes, the endeavor you are about to undertake is incredibly frightening. You are essentially moving hundreds of miles of hour over icy waters in total darkness. Add to this that you are sitting in a cylindrical metal object of 100,000 plus pounds of steel, rubber, plastic, and highly volatile jet fuel.

As a pilot, I vomited EVERY time I flew, especially before, during and after every flight over a large body of water.

God Bless You-

Very rare for a plane to crash.
You're just paranoid, don't let the plane crash in the Hudson get to you.
The chances of that happening is about 1 in 1 billion.

I flew to London from New Jersey and from Rome back to New Jersey.
I'm fine ( :

Mikey D
ehh. probably id say a .09% chance of crashing.
its not goin down man. pilots are goods these days.

Hey don't worry sweetie everything will be fine
you have more risk and of getting hit by a car when you get of your car then you dying in a plane crash.
Dont worry about the plane ride and just focus on the fun that you will be having overseas.

Don't be nervous, just introduce yourself to the flight attendant in your area, bring a book, and enjoy some quiet time. It will be a piece of cake! the chances of it crashing are slim to none, though nothing is ever impossible.

I went to Italy in July and you will die of bored um before anything else!!!
It was my first cross atlantic flight and it went fine. Fell asleep about ten times. My legs fell asleep more than that. Fed us like crazy and actually I did like the flight. Not a flying person but got over it.

kj
Look around at all the people in the seating area before you board. If you recognize anybody as being from the TV show LOST, I would avoid getting on board.

Other than that, I don't think you have a problem. Even with all the "air incidents" we've heard about in the news recently, air travel is still safer than driving on highways. Assuming you can handle all the air travel hassles these days, you should have a relatively uneventful trip.

you are more likely to kill yourself during your life than crashing in a plane

Nothing is guaranteed, but, your probably safer in a plane than in a car.

Hardly any chance at all! Keep in mind, even on 9/11 (the most tragic day for flying in our history), a very, very small percentage of people flying on that particular day were in a plane crash. Not to make light of it, because it was awful, and so were the recent incidents, but you have a better chance of an accident happening on the way to the airport. Yes it can happen, but it probably won't happen to you.
Airplanes are amazing. When you're on it you'll see. This huge metal aircraft is perfectly engineered to fly through the sky, take on all sorts of problems, and still get you someplace fast, and safely.
Get on the plane, try to keep yourself occupied so you don't think about it, and really enjoy your visit overseas. Pay attention to the what-to-do-in-an-emergency stuff, just in case you need it, but you probably won't.
Also remember, any time you hear something you think is weird, look around at the other passengers. Many of them are experienced travelers, so when you see that they're relaxed, you relax. Planes make weird noises.
Have a great trip. You'll be back in no time telling stories about your great trip. Good luck.

if you put yourself in a car everyday, you have much more greater chance gettting in a car crash than a plane crash

Redhead Drunk on Red Wine..Again
What's the difference? What does it matter where you go? If something happens, something happens.

I am so tired of people that have fears of flying. You HAVE GOT to understand that you really have a higher chance of crashing in a car than a plane. THAT IS THE TRUTH.

WHERE you fly has nothing to do with safety.

ashleynreid11
nothing is goin to happen there are so many planes fly across the world and just a few crash. it is like 1 out of a million!! dont worry it will be fun and fine.

Huskie#9â„¢
You won't crash.

take some pills, and you'll sleep through it like a baby

Danielle, you will be fine. Your chances of being in a plane crash are LESS than that of being hit on the head by a fish dropped by an eagle.
When was the last time you saw an eagle?

Today's aircraft are extremely reliable. Pilots would not fly them across the world if they were not, would they? After all, they have families, too.

If you are an avid reader, take an old friend along with you. You will get as much out of it the second or third time through the book, and interruptions won't bother you.

Enjoy yourself.

Regards,
Dan

ahh. i get this feeling everytime. don't worry. just listen to an ipod while chewing gum and drinking some coke to add some zest. works everytime. i promise. dont freak out kay? trust me!

2009 Grad.
You'll be fine.
Riding in a plane is safer than driving. At least, because there are A LOT less plane crashes then there are car crashes.

Hope I helped :]

Sweetheart, your more then likely to get humped by a giant ape that escaped from the zoo on the way to your car before a plain crashing. I travel ALLLLLL the time and the worsed that you should worry about is just a few air pockets. air pockets is just terbulance. you will be fine dont worry =)

Yoour chances are 1 in 11 million. We recently had a lotto up here in Canada that was 1 in 14 million chance winning. You have a much larger chance of getting hit by a bus.

I love to fly - its like a roller coaster.

Take a shitload of sleeping pills with you and you won't care.

Generic Person
About the same odds of you getting in a car accident anywhere else.
