Safer on an airplane than being driven in a car by a 16 year old.

don't violate me bro

flying is still statistically safer than driving...

You're safer in the air than you are on the drive to / from the airport, statistically. Relax and enjoy the ride.

And DON"T make jokes about bombs, plane crashes, terrorists, etc. TSA is required to take those seriously. If you do,you will spend several hours in a small closed room, answering a lot of questions over and over and over. You will be searched VERY thoroughly, and that search may include someone wearing a rubber glove. Catch my meaning? Enjoy the ride, but don't be a smartass, and you'll be fine.

I assume you mean as a passenger with a reputable airline, not on a military or privately-owned jet.
In that case, about 1 flight in 1 million ends in a crash, and then not necessarily fatal for all on board.
By anyone's standards, that's pretty safe.

There are about 30,000 airline flights per day in the US alone.
Now, how often do you hear about a plane crash on the news. Maybe once a year? 30,000 * 365 = about one in ten million airline flights in the US will crash.

Seriously, you have a much higher chance of dying in a car accident on the way to the airport.

Hey Thomas,
No where is safe today dude!

You might get struck by lightning, whilst you're in a park.
The train you're on might derail.
You might get run over crossing the road.

Seriously Thomas, the modern Aircraft of today is SAFE, every instrument is duplicated, all the crew are trained for emergencies,
You really are statistically more likely to die from crossing the road!
GET ON THE AIRCRAFT Thomas, don't be scared, if you are, ask if you can go into the cockpit, and see the grand job the captain is doing flying the aircraft, (something that he does several times a day).

You're safe.
You took 1000 more risks going to school and back today.

If you've never flown before, wait until you see what clouds look like from above !

EDIT: Looking at the answers, this kid is going to be happy flying but will get worried about driving to the airport instead :-)

"....don't know if I'll be back again....."

We take risks in life everyday.
You take a risk when you cross the street during traffic.....
you take a risk when you eat at a new sushi restaraunt.....
you take a risk when you fly in an airplane....

like every other risk in life, people make the decision to take the risk, and they survive. There are far more people who live through plane flights than those who die during one. Don't be afraid, trained pilots will take great care to get you to your destination in one piece. The media only televises the few plane crashes that occur infrequently and doesn't remind people that there are thousands of daily flights that land safely

Please don't be scared.
I am a nervous passenger simply because I do not like heights.
I am sure you will enjoy the flight once you get used to it. The most nerve wracking bit it taking off and landing.
Sit in the isle seat if you don;t like to look out of the windows.
Statistically you are said to be far safer flying than you are travelling by car!
Take something to occupy your brain such as a game-boy/DS console, watch the movie, read book? You will get a meal on the flight too which passes the time. Take a walk around the plane often to stretch your legs and keep the circulation going. Also drink plenty of water and juices.

Sounds like you are asking a crystal ball.
You WILL die when it is time for you to die....even if you are in your bed....when it's time for you to die....you will die. So go fly.

Better to die stupid like you are now.
No of course you will not be safe. Planes crash by the 100's every day, millions of people are killed as we sit here.

sailor
You will be perfectly safe. till it crashes
