don't be scared! firstly the pilots wouldnt fly the plane if they think somethings not right as they would be risking their own lives
secondly there are thousands and thousands of successful flights everyday, the only reason plane crashes are made a big deal out of is because they happen so rarely.
also flying is AMAZING!! i will swap places with you if you like? my brother works for an airline and flys every week and he's still standing!

i love flying. take off and landing are the best bit, with the middle part a bit dull. Look out of the window and see if you can see any landmarks.

Well you will be too nervous to go to sleep, without the help of drugs, but you are too young for that anyway. Try going on some really crazy roller coasters before hand and you will see going on planes is really not a big deal at all. If you are scared about looking outside the plane, then you could also blindfold yourself before takeoff, or, if on a window seat, keep the window closed.

But really you should enjoy yourself, flying is safe and fun, and you are going on holiday.

Steven Gerrard
Dont be scared. This is my advice.Read a book or just fall asleep and don't think about yourself being scared of flying.

LC
Don't be scared. I feel so sorry for you as you'r only 12. I'm scared of flying too but I'm 30 and this has developed slowly over the last 3 years. Flying to France is good though becuase there are so many airports between here and there that if the pilot had any reason to worry he could land the plane. After that accident in Spain last month pilots are probably more paranoid than usual and they won't be taking any chances. We are very luck in Europe because safety checks are amazing and the planes are only flying short distances so they are not put under any stress. Just relax and enjoy the flight.

I usually find that reading helps. Find a good book with a good story line. Get yourself into the seond chapter before you get on the plane so that you are into the story line and you're engrossed. That definately helps. Your fear can sometimes be made worse by boredom. I definately find that. I'm definately more afraid when I'm tired too so make sure you get a good night's sleep the night before so that you're fresh and rational.

Remember that if flying was dangerous, they would have trouble recruiting staff and air hostesses would be on really really good salaries. Watch them while they're working. They just busy about as if they were working in their own homes. It makes no difference to them that they're up in the sky.

Please try to fight your fear. DOn't let it develop like mine has. YOu can control it at this stage. If you start to feel scared just say to yourseld "I'm not scared" "this is a normaly thing to do".

Good luck!

wierd and wounderful world of me
just remember this tavel by plane is one of the safest forms unless rollercoaster where a form which then they would be the safest
if a pane does go down what can you do about it, nothing so theres no need to worry
have a harlicks before going on the plane and stay awake the previous night

Peter G
the chances of death or an accident in a plane are around 56 million to 1 a car is around 17 thousand to 1 so flying is a much more safer means of transport.......

just try to fall asleep and remember that more people die on the drive to the airport than on a plane

I am scared of flying too and I have an 8 hour flight from my hometown to frankfurt germany. My doctor prescribed me a sleeping pill so that I would be calm during my flight. Maybe you could talk with you're doctor and see what he says.
