ask your local pharmacist, they usually can recommend something. Be strong, I have flown since i was a kid ( i´m 29) and have always enjoyed it. Its comfortable, it gets you to the destination faster then driving or taking a bus or train.. Just relax, take a deep breath once you´re on the plane and hold your girlfriends hand. She will help you calm down , ( I´m sure) and just don´t think of anything else but her! LETS BE POSITIVE ! :)
Good luck and have a great flight!

ok hunny first chill take a deep breath now and listen.go to your doctor and tell him how bad you are he may be able to prescribe something for you to keep you calm like a mild seditive. If he doesn't then you could try rescue remedy, kalms or that kind of stuff. or learn to deep breath properly most anxiety problems can stem from over breathing. If you can afford it try hypnotherapy my brother was very scared and thats what he done and he loves flying now..being as your going very soon you've left things a little late really. If all else fails , 10 mins before you are due to board take some nytol available from boots or any other chemist it will make you sleepy and may make you fall asleep till you land. When you get back from this holiday i would seriously think of takling this problem as soon as you get back because it could take a few months of hypnotherapy or cog behavior therapy to get you all sorted. so that the next time you fly you can really look foward to it .I fly with thomas cook in september and they are great ,no probs at all .try and enjoy it hunny good luck youll be fine and youll be safe too xxx dont worry |

Just relax and don't think negatively too far. As far as I know, flying nowadays with quality airlines is safer than driving a car. In other words, it is 99.9% safe traveling in any modern, high-tech airliner; the technicians on the ground will definitely not allow any plane to take off if they find any malfunction anywhere inside or outside the jumbo jet.
I used to think like you after our THAI flight took off from Bangkok to Frankfurt, it headed north-west over Burma and it was at night around 7.45 p.m. but I thought it was useless to keep worrying. I asked for more beer and I slept soundly till early morning and I found we were flying over Turkey.
Travel safely, enjoy your flight. |

If you are not keen on flying you should find other means of travel. e.g. Go by train or boat. |

Treatment
Medication:
Fear of flying may also be treated by the use of psychoactive medications. For individuals experiencing anxiety due to a phobia, the standard psychiatric prescription might be any of a number of different psychoactive medications such as benzodiazepines or other relaxant/depressant drugs. Psychiatrists are sometimes reluctant to prescribe any medication for the treatment of fear of flying due to the need for patients to medicate irregularly.
Some individuals with fear of flying may self-medicate with other psychoactive substances—particularly alcohol, which is served in many commercial airline cabins—in order to deal with their anxiety. Most mental health professionals would advise against consuming alcohol as a medication both due to the strong risk of dependency (alcoholism) and due to the particular physiological effects on the body of air travel. In a pressurized cabin, the lower-than-normal oxygen content of the air will cause an alcoholic beverage to have a significantly enhanced effect on the body--resulting in a perhaps surprising level and rapidity of intoxication from only one or two drinks. On the other hand, some professionals believe that if an individual is capable of controlling his or her drinking—i.e. is not an alcoholic—and consumes only a small amount at a time, that an alcoholic beverage before or during a flight may be beneficial as a short-term treatment of the fear of flying.[citation needed] Most would still advise a more long-term strategy of systematic desensitization therapy.
Education:
In some cases, educating people with a fear of flying about the realities of aviation can considerably diminish their fears. Learning how aircraft fly, how airliners are flown in practice, and other aspects of aviation can assist people with a fear of flying in overcoming its irrational nature. Some people with a fear of flying undertake education themselves; others attend courses (for people with the phobia or for people interested in aviation) to achieve the same result. Some airline and travel companies run courses to help people get over the fear of flying.
People often think that an aircraft that finds itself without power (engines out) will immediatly go down or become uncontrolable. A Boeing 747 at cruising altitude can glide for more than 30 minutes before it reaches the ground. Most have an automated system(wind powered) that automatically deploys out of the aircraft in such circumstance, that even provide pilots with enough electricity to power main navigational instruments. |
