In travelling from the US to Europe, how many bottles of wine am I allowed to bring back to the US?

Is there a limit on the value only, or also on the number of bottles? How many bottles are allowed? Can they be in checked or carry-on baggage- or both? Thanks!

I've provided you with the official government link. Plain and simple guidelines.

http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/travel/vacation/kbyg/dutyfree_exemption.xml

What I can tell you from my own travels, the duty for wine is VERY cheap. I brought back a few extras and the duty would have been less than .50 a bottle.

While you can't count it... many entry places will waive the duty if it's under $10.00. It isn't worth the time and paperwork.

As to packing, you are allowed to pack wine, but I don't suggest it. Not only do you have to deal with packing it correctly, you have to worry about TSA re-packing correctly. I've had more than one experience with them not putting things back as found, and returning home with broken gifts.

Go to an A.A. meeting instead.

wine might be a gallon per person, hard liquor is a liter i think, no matter what it costs. You can check or carry, carry might be safer unless you pack well and are optimistic. I think the duty is only a couple bucks per bottle if you bring in more.

I think but please check with the airlines but I believe it is 2 bottles of any value per person, bring them as carry on they will not break that way. You might not be able to bring champagne or beer because it is a compressed gas. When I was in Russia I brought back a bottle of Pepsi written in Russian in my luggage, not sure if that was legal but I did it.

50-75 bottles. i am in italy now.

the much your belle can

1 liter duty-free. Larger quantities allowed, as long as it doesn't look like you're trying to import for resale, and you have to pay duty on everything over the first 1 liter.

You NEVER want to check bottles of any kind. Most airlines will not allow alcohol in checked baggage. Should they break and leak you will be responsilble for damage to not only your own luggage but anyone elses that gets damaged as well. You will have to sign a release waiver releasing the airline from any responsibility should damage occur. Secondly you will need to first check with the airline you are flying to see what their rules and regulations are. Then look up the US Customs website. I did not see anything about how many bottles you can bring as far as Customs Declaration.

If you choose to carry them on, they case you pack them in must fit the carry on baggage guidelines of 45 linear inches and fit in the overhead bin or preferably under the seat infront of you so that there is no risk of dropping the box when stowing or retrieving from the overhead bin.

The best thing is to pack them properly and have them shipped.
