Its too short, if one of your flights gets delayed, then you are stucked. I prefer layovers of an hour or more.
Keep in mind that planes start boarding at least 10 minutes before departure and also think of the time it would take to walk from one gate to another at the airport. |

That is cutting it a little to close. What if your incoming flight is delayed? What if it takes to long to get off the plane? You have to factor these in. It is not enough. |

thats if the flight isn't late from toronto. Is it 30 min before they start boarding the plane or 30 min before the plane takes off. If it's is 30 min before the plane takes off and your flight from Toronto is 20 min late you WILL miss your flight. What about your bags! If your flight is 15 mins late and you run and make the plane will the ground crew be running on the ground with your luggage? Doubt it. Will they hold the plane for your luggage? Doubt it?
look on this site for tickets to compare

There are so many things that can go wrong I have had tight connection before and they are not worth the added stress and hassle. |

It's not likely.. especially if your incoming flight may be at a different terminal or gate than your outgoing flight.
Quite frankly Chicago is a big hub, and incoming flights are often delayed. You're wait time could be cut to just a few minutes. |

Because you are flying into Chicago, I would say 30 minutes is too close. Chicago is known for its delays. Also once the airplane lands, it needs to taxi to the gate which will take time. United and American have a lot of gates in Chicago so even though the connection is in the same terminal, it does not make a difference. |

Well, seeing that you have several connections it might not be, whereas if you has just one you would be alright. i can only go by my experience which and for me it was alright as the flights were on time and have time to make it to the connecting gate with no troubles at all. I've had to connect in Washington-Dulles on one trip and in Detroit for the other trip and both trips went smoothly. |

When I booked my flight with Air France, I had a 1 hour connection flight waiting time, not true at all, we had to get on the plane 5 minutes after we landed. |

Even though you clear US customs and immigration in Toronto before you leave, and hence it is regarded as a domestic flight on landing at Chicago, 30 minutes is not enough time to make a connection. If the airline is telling you you can make it, they will have to re-book you on another flight but this will make you late for the trans Pacific leg. I think that they are being irresponsible by allowing such a short connection time. Also remember that landing time is wheels down, not at the gate, and departure time is push back from the gate. Even if you make it, do you think your luggage will?
Good luck. You will need it. |

you oculd make it, if your flight lands early and the one you are taking off of is late and they are in the same terminal. which is doubtful, so no. is this all on one ticket because they shouldn't have given you that short of connection time |

It is going to be tight. That gives you very little time to switch over, and your original flight has to be right on time, otherwise you will miss your connecting. They will probably start boarding 30 minutes before departure. So the answer is yes, it is enough time if your original flight has no delay whatsoever. |

I think it is cutting it very fine. Can you check your luggage through to San Francisco in Chicago? If not you will have to collect it before making your way to your next plane. I would try to get an earlier flight from Toronto. Make sure you are covered if you miss any of your connections. I travel quite a bit and I work on a minimum of 45 mins between flights and twice that if I have to collect my luggage. |
