I think it's fun, personally. You get a little wowie when the plane takes off, but it only lasts a moment, and I've been on so many planes I hardly notice it's moving. If you think you'll be bothered, then don't sit by the window, and listen to your ipod or what have you if you can, you won't notice a thing.

benben3501
IM 12 TOO!!! but I travel to somewhere every 6 months, making me ride on a plane about 5-8 times every year and im used to it. When you take off, it about takes 10-20 seconds for you to get up in the air. From 0-170 miles per hour in 20 seconds max! WOW! But the acceleration is nothing but fun! If you get motion sickness or afraid of fly try to sleep about only a couple of hours the night before you your tired enough to sleep on the plane. You shouldnt take any tranquilizers because I dont think they are the best method of sleeping because they are chemicals but if you need to go ahead but I dont recommend it! When you land, its awesome!!. You get to see all the sights and you get to feel the plane slow down when it touches the runway. Turbulence is no worry! NO COMMERCIAL AIRLINER HAS EVER crashed from turbulence. Its just when the wind outside gets a little rough and starts moving the plane a little. Not to worry! About the turbulence question, it really depends on how bad the turbulence is. I flew through a thunderstorm on the way home to Boston and one of the bins opened. We also landed a little sideways from winds over 45 miles per hour and we were okay. Was a little bumpy though!

AND REMEMBER: Flying is the SAFEST way of travel! You are more likely to crash in a car. Crashing in a plane has a 1 out of more than 20 million chance and crashing in a car is a 1 out of 35 chance.

I myself am not afraid of flying. I had never flown until I was 15, and I was a little anxious then. But one I'd done it (take-off and actual flying), my fears went away.

But everyone's different, so I'll try to answer your questions to my experience.

Take-off feels a lot like when you're in a car and the driver accelerates quicker than normal. You feel a little heavier in your seat for a few seconds, but it fades once the plane gets up to take-off speed.

Turbulence is minimal. Airplanes these days have plenty of warning of bad weather, and can fly around rough air. When you do get turbulence, it's like driving down an unpaved, bumpy road. But there's *not* stuff flying through the air and out of overhead bins; that's just TV/movie hype.

Avoid the tranquilizer. You might enjoy the flight, and it'd be wasted because you're... well... wasted. If you're still very nervous before the flight, have your mom give you a *single* does of Benedryll. It's not a tranquilizer per se, but it will calm you.

Do:
- bring a novel, magazine, puzzle book. It'll keep your mind occupied.
- get an aisle seat (one in the middle). That way, you'll have quicker access to the restroom if needed.
- the stewards/stewardesses are there to help. Asked for help if and when you need it.

Good luck, and enjoy your flight.

this is what I replied to girl who had a similar question:

I personally would not drug myself, but that is up to you. I don't know the tranquilizers out there so I can't help you. If you REALLY want a tranquilizer, talk to your doctor. However, I don't think it is necessary (I've never taken them, but then again I'm not ) and you can practice relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, stretching, and flexing your feet. Most flights have a booklet with relaxation exercises. Also, most flights have an in flight radio program with several stations, such as classical, world music, contemporary, Top Hits, Pop, Oldies, etc. Listening to music might help you relax.

The takeoff: First, once you get into your seat, the plane stands for a while, waiting for all passengers to get seated and the close the doors, etc. Then, the plane taxis, which means it drives around the lanes for while to pick up speed to launch into the air. You can tell when the plane is airborne, because you feel a slight change in the motion of the plane and the plane tilts upward a bit. (It is nothing scary - no sudden movements, no jolts, nothing to worry about:). One or two flight attendants will go through the emergency safety procedures with you. You will hear the explanation through the intercom, while the flight attendant demonstrates using props. You will also have a booklet in front of you which goes through the same safety procedures and shows you the emergency exits. Don't let these safety procedures alarm you - every single flight has to go through them, but the probability of you ever having to resort to them is very small. I've been flying for 18 years and I've NEVER had to go through them. If you are sitting in an emergency seat, you need to ask a flight attendant to move you to another seat, because you have to be at least 15 year old to sit there. You will be asked to keep your seatbelt on until the flight attendant tells you the captain has turned off the seatbelt sign (you can see the seatbelt sign above each row). The captain will turn the seatbelt sign back on IF there is turbulence in the air OR if you are landing. If you encounter turbulence while on your flight - DO NOT WORRY!! It happens VERY often and isn't anything to worry about. Sometimes the plane may shake a bit, but that is normal. I've lost count how many times I've been in a plane that shook a bit while encountering turbulence. During those times, just put your seatbelt back on, and don't get out of your seat.

I don't know how fast the acceleration speed is, but I'm sure it's fast! But you want it to be fast, otherwise the plane would never get airborne. Don't worry about that, the pilots are trained professionals.

Statistically speaking, the chances of being in a car crash and/or dieing/getting injured in a car are MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH greater than in a plane. There is a magazine in front of you so you can read that, and you can bring some of your own books or magazines to read.

Remember, you can always ask the flight attendants if you need anything. There even is button for you to press that tells them you need their assistance. When you are in plane, it just feels as if you are sitting in a chair, so it's not a scary feeling. If you are seated next to a window, you can look out - it's sometimes quite interesting to see how the earth looks like from a bird's eye view. One of my favorite things to do is to look out the window just as the plane is about to take off and watch how the cars, streets, houses, etc. become smaller and smaller and start looking like toys. However, if looking out the window may make you more nervous, you can always close the blinds and not worry about being up in the air.

You can bring playing cards or mad libs or some game like that to help you pass the time.

I hope this helps you! I know this is your first time, and it seems very scary, but there is really nothing to worry about. Just relax, breathe, listen to music, read a book or play a game or catch some sleep and you will be in NY before you know it! Good luck and have fun! if you need anything, feel free to email me: janelikesjoe@yahoo.com.

Since you are flying by yourself, the flight attendants will help you. You can always ask on the plane and in the airports. When in doubt - ask!

It is not scary at all, taking off is nothing but fun, the landing is a bit dodgy, but turbelents are weird but not lethal.

ive been off on planes at least twice a year for 9 years so i suppose im used to it

just keep in mind that it's safer to ride a plane then it is to cross the road

just don't puch the button that says "recline" while you are in the air.
...that opens the window.

just kidding. you will be fine. read a magazine, take a nap, listen to music, watch a movie, etc..

use the time to chill and relax.

btw.. Flying is a hundred times safer than getting into an automobile.

Palmisan
Don't worry , It will be a great experience flying through Air. You can listen to music to divert your attention if you feel scared. Cheers !!

I love airplanes. I am leaving for the Caribbean in a few hours. I was once in the bathroom, washing my hands when there was a lot of turbulence, and I thought it fun.

Don't worry your little head, things willI be just fine. The flight might be a little shaky during turbulence but it doesnt happen all the time except during bad weather, you might feel a little jerks during take off and landing otherwise everything is cool have been flying for the past thirty years but felt like jumping out of the plane just once due to bad weather. Just start your journey with a small prayer and leave the rest in the hand of the almighty and he will send he will release his angels to protect you on your way, If possible read Psalm 91 everyday and see the power of God in your life...Halleluah
