Just remember that planes are safer than cars. Chew gum to equalize your ear pressure.
Bring a good book or a portable DVD player to distract you.
I fly every week from Los Angeles to Virginia -- so it could be worse, eh? |

Planes are FUN! If you are concerned with ear popping I suggest the following: Hold your nose closed while trying to blow out through your nose every fifteen minutes from now until you leave for your flight tomorrow. This is a trick used by scuba divers to clear up that problem under the depths of the sea. Also make sure you are chewing gum on your flight as that helps too. Keep yourself busy on the plane by bringing a hand held game or really good book. Order the headsets so you can listen to music. You are safer flying than being in an automobile. For an added fact, the most plane crashes occur in the month of March. We are now in April! Have fun!!!!! |

Why would you be afraid of your ears popping? It is uncomfortable and wierd but that part isn't scary.
I'm afraid of flying but my ears popping are honestly the least of my worries. |

Your ears popping is no big deal if you handle it correctly. If you fly frequently, they may be used to it by now, if not chew gum and swallow often on takeoff. If you swallow and chew you should experience little to no popping.
As for your safety, you are more likely to be killed driving to the airport than be injured on your flight. You will be fine, currently, this is not a made up number, it is from a tracking site, there are 4,998 commercial aircraft going into or coming out of the United States. This number is consistent nearly the whole day, everyday, for years and years, and how often do you hear of a crash? How about a fatal crash? Maybe once every few years. You will be safe, and use the method I have provided to help with your ears! |

I have only had my ears pop when traveling in a car in the mountains. I've flown several times in small and large planes and haven't experienced that. I'm thinking the large planes pressurize the cabins. Try to relax...I think you'll actually enjoy it. At first you might feel uncomfortable, but I think you'll ease in to it. |

It is normal to have a fear do don't feel bad. However, if you chew gum during take off and landing it will help with the ear problem. All you can do is chew and try to relax. Have a safe trip. |

about a year ago was my first time on a plane and i was so worried about my ears popping. I just got a bottle of water and gulped it down as it took off and the same when it was landing. Just do that :) |

You will be okay - take something to read. They say to chew gum on take off and landing.
Be sure you do not have an ear infection -I did and my ear hurt so bad.
Enjoy the trip |

Plane travel is safer than by car. As for ears popping get some decongestant from the pharmacy. I usually start taking them up to 2 days before I fly and defiantly 4 hours before I take of then every 4 hours as I'm flying (read the label to make sure you do not exceed the daily does). Speak to the pharmacist about this and they will offer you the best advice. This helps me greatly (I have allergies) and has completely eliminated ear popping and pain from this for my husband. My daughters as well, do this.
We recently traveled with my 5 year old who I gave 1 triaminic chewable 2 hours before we would start to descend as well as licorice to eat ( she doesn't like gum). She was not bothered at all. Just make sure you have something to make you chew and swallow during the decent, this really helps. Once I've landed I blow my nose a couple times and this helps clear my ears.
You can also get ear plug designed for plane use they are sold under the brand Ear Planes. I've used these as well. |

I'm a little afraid of planes as well. I found that if you go make sure a little bit of air is blowing on you while you are flying it helps to calm me down. If you don't like to look out the window then close the window and sleep or read a magizine. If you are old enough to drink then have a drink. It is one of those things that you take a chance in life and your more likely to have a car crash than be involved in a plane crash. Hopefully you will have a pilot like Sully who perfectly landing his plane in the Hudson River in New York. Well, good luck! Just have fun and relax. |

i have never been afraid of planes as long as i remember until a while ago i started getting really nervous durning take off , landing, and turbulence, now its a full on fear of crashing durning those three stages . while im in the air im ok, its until that happens . and my ears always pop . i drank water , chew gum, yawn . it all helps . once my ears didnt pop until a hour after landing . i always just take gravol before i go on a plane for i can sleep through, and durning take off and landing i just take deep breaths and close my eyes until its over , i bet it looks stupid to the other passengers but it helps me . also while on the plane if your not sleeping, keep busy . read magazines, watch tv, listen to music, read a book - try to keep your mind off the fact your on a plane .
best of luck = ) |
