Yes it's natural. Some flights have none. Some have alot. If you fly in Texas during the summer time, expect alot. If you fly in California during the summer time, expect very little.
colleen
yes but its scary
blue2lady2001
yes that is natural to have turbulence on a airplane
CRJPILOT
Yes, the pilot will do his best to fly around it or above it but sometimes you just have to fly through it cant be helped. Luckily severe turbulence is very rare and even then it is not dangerous just uncomfortable.

Yeah I am flying pretty often and it always happen. So don't worry and enjoy your flight.

It would be unnormal to experience a flight WITHOUT turbulance.
Sounds like you have a phobia... (Which I also have) of flying...
According to my uncle who is a retired pilot for American Airlines (35 years of service). There has never been a documented case where turbulance alone was deemed the cause of a jet airplane crash.
Do you know how strong the wings of a 747 are? Did you know that they are capable of flexing 24 feet up or down (at the tip) without breaking?
Though turbulance can make you feel TOTALLY out of control, those pilots don't want to die either. You are indeed safer in the air, than you are in a car- despite the crazy loops your stomach goes through in the sky. It is completely psychological!
Next time, take a deep breath and bring something to distract you from the terrifying turbulance. You will be safe.
Happy Flying!

Yes.

Yes. The atmosphere can be very unstable, and planes have to ride through that. It's just like the difference here on the ground between nice calm days and those days when the wind whips the trees back and forth.
Turbulence has a number of causes, including uneven heating of the ground below and vortices off of the wingtips of other planes. It's uncomfortable, but only very rarely dangerous.
