Is it Rude to Recline your Airplane Seat?

I want to get your opinion. Does the person sitting in a seat on a plane, bus, or train have the unconditional right to recline his seat? Is the space that is used up in the seat behind for the recline technically owned by the person sitting in the reclining seat.

Possible scenarios:

1) Person sitting in the seat behind him wants to work on her laptop, but can't if the seat is reclined.

2) Person sitting in the seat behind is a large and/or tall man/woman and the reclining seat would make him or her feel more cramped than he or she already is.

3) Person can only sleep and feel comfortable when seat is reclined

Yes I paid for my seat If I want to recline why should'nt .If you insist on having to use your computer then make sure you have the first seat in the area, then there is no problem would you like a 13 hour flight sitting bolt upright, some folks work all day, then travel and need to recline, some folks like me have back problem
what do I do, make it worse so someone can use thier computer,g sorry, why should I have to explain to someone the reason why I have to put my seat in recline, why after all the trouble of making room for more seats and less bagage an board would they not put cheaper none reclining seats in, ah not thought about the computers,

There have been times I've been annoyed by that guy that reclines his seat when I'm trying to work, but it's his right to do so, just as much as it's my right to be annoyed.
To avoid being rude, be aware of those around you, and act accordingly. If it creates an issue, ask the flight attendant to reseat you.

reclining your seat past a little bit in economy is rude and inconsiderate no matter what the excuse

LeeAnna32
Only if it impeded the person behind you. There is such little space on airplanes that we should be courteous of others around us.

Sandi Beach
Just to be courteous, I would ask the person behind me if they would mind. And then I still would not recline it all the way. I don't want to be in someone else's lap.

I think the person in the seat has the right to recline the seat but unless not all the way unless it is an overnight flight and people are trying to sleep.

I know this sounds awful but I was on a trans-Atlantic flight in the middle of the day and the guy in front of me kept reclining and it was messing up my laptop so I just kept pushing his seat up he finally got the hint and switched seats w/ this wife --- she did not recline.

we just travelled by plane a 3 1/2 hr trip my partner in nearlly 7 feet tall and 90kilo's (tall man) and there was a young man in the seat in front of him he reclined his seat straight away , he had a full 3 seater to him self, so i asked him to move in front of me and recline as i as smaller he just smerked and continued it anyway, then we had a 7 hr bus ride and my partner had to sit right up the back as his head was hitting the roof. he also had a lady in front of him that reclined her seat a little to far he had to sit on his side with his legs hanging over the whole way needless to say he could hardly walk from both trips. so no i dont think people should recline there seats in public transport, especially if you know there is someone bigger behind or in front of you !!
then again ther dont accomadate for larger people do they?

You should be able to recline the seat but just not all the way unless it is an overnight flight where most people would be sleeping.

I slam that mamma-jamma back all the way and I do it fast. That way if the person has anything on their tray, it goes flying off. That is what we French do, but it may be different in other countries.
