Is it illegal for a minor to carry alchohol on a plane in there carry on? |
I am only 20 but I am going to boston on a plane for a weekend to go to dinner with some friends. I wanted to know if I will get hassled if I bring a bottle of wine in my carry on. I wanted to give the wine as a gift? Anyone who knows for sure would be real helpful. Thanks |

Ok listen TSA doesn't ask how old you are so you'll be fine taking it on the plane with you which is better than taking the chance of it getting broken in checked bag. |

Even though it is not meant to be an illegal action, and from what I gather you won't be drinking it, I think it is still illegal. Persons under 21 in the US are not legally allowed to even posses alcohol. In your situation, I personally think that you should be allowed, but the law disagrees. |

If you are travelling domestically and have it in your checked baggage, who would know? |

Oh yeah, if it's illegal for someone under 21 to carry this in the state you are taking off in or the state you land in, then yes. |

i think it might be. Best if you could pack it into a checked bag.
Actually, you may still be able to get away with it in your carry on, because who checks ages at the airport? Just confidently say "it's a gift." |

Yes. It's illegal. |

If you look like a teenager then it may not be a good idea, because they may give you a hard time if they see it. They might ask you all sorts of questions and if you are the sensitive type then you might feel embarassed. The worse they'll do is confiscate it and tell you that you should'nt be carrying alcohol at your age and tell you to move on. Then they will enjoy it and have a good time with it later. (Haha) However, if you look and act mature then it shouldn't be a problem. Wrap it up nicely with wrapping paper and a ribbon then wrap it up with bubble wrap or cardboard to keep it secure. Go through security normally and don't bring attention to yourself. Move through as you would normally. If you get specially marked to go through the special screening, then they will use a detection device to test for any explosive chemicals around your bags. You're not going to have a problem with a bottle of packaged wine. They usually will not ask, but if they do, just unwrap the package, just do it like it's no big deal because it isn't. They dont usually need to go through your belongings in domestic like they do through the international terminal. Their job is to check for any dangerous or hazardous materials that will be a harmful on the airplanes or to passengers. So, if you look and act mature enough even if they see the bottle they are not going to card you because that's not their job to do. Enjoy your trip! |
