Is it illegal to bring a knife onto a plane?
not the luggage you have with you on the plane, but the luggage that ends up in the storage areas in the back of the plane?
because I can't believe they'd think you'd be able to reach it through layers of aluminum?
this is because I'm a sportsman and I love my hunting knife, so I want to bring it with me somewhere's else. Additional Details ok, I meant the checked or non-carry on luggage, didn't remember how it was said, thank you.
You may put it in your checked luggage. See site below and look under "sharp objects."

it's only illegal if you bring it in your carry on luggage; the luggage you have above or below your seat. if it's in your luggage that goes below the plane, it's fine. hope i helped.

If you personally carry it on then the answer is yes. If it is packed in shipped through luggage then no.

U can put it into your checked in baggage. It is illegal to carry it on person or in your hand baggage.

if it is checked, there is no problem, just be sure it meets your airline's standards, on their web site.

I don't know which country you are bringing the knife into (or out of) or whether you are travelling domestically.
But from what I know - it would be fine to have it in your checked luggage. Remember though, that most airport these days ALSO scan checked luggage. You may have to explain you knife to security if they want to question you about it.
If you are travelling internationally- then you should check BEFORE you leave if you are able to bring it into the country of destination. For example, even though it is OK at your departing airport to have it in the luggage, if you were to arrive in Australia, you will most likely NOT be allowed to bring it in as it is considered a weapon. Many countries would likely have the same rule.
Hope this answered your question.
Cheers

Yes - it is not allowed. As a matter of fact if you try to bring a knife on board that has a blade that is 5 inches or more then it is a federal crime and you are looking at serious jail time.
