Is it illegal to bring your own parachute on a commercial airplane?

yes it will fit in the overhead bin and pack is in allowable dimention and weight by airline operator.

but...

no passenger is allowed by the airport security to bring a parachute in the plane as a carry-on bag. maybe before... but NOW nomore. you will be ask to place it in your check-in luggage or leave it on the airport.

and...

it is only in the movies that people can jump out a commercial plane without the pilots knowing it. yes your parachute is rated with high altitude jumps but airspeed of the plane is also considered before jumping. plane should first slow down so that the pack will not be rip off..

If it fits the carry on luggage weight requirements or the airline has a policy to allow you to carry on oversized bags for a fee then yes.

I'm just curious. Are you a trained sky diver? Have you ever used a chute before? Have you ever tried to open a door mid flight at any point in your life with a full slip stream pressing it shut (if you have successfully done this, I'd suggest a career as world's strongest man)

Basically if you really wanted to then yes you could. As you state about the wings falling off, your odds are more likely that while on your way to visit a magic talking zebra, you win a winning lottery ticket which then conducts electricity from a lightening bolt that kills you.

check out the info on www.uspa.org about traveling with rigs. yes you can bring the rig, yes you can wear it, and despite the idea you have that it will help you, it really will not. Not to mention the panic you will cause in other passengers and the very uncomfortable flight you will have. I travel for a living and I jump for fun. I have no interest in wearing my rig in the plane unless I plan to leave the plane.

Obviously either you have never BEEN on an airplane or your are too dumb to figure out that a parachute would NOT FIT under the seat in front of you or in the OVERHEAD locker... which is required for ALL CARRYON LUGGAGE.

Yes, you can bring it on board,
no you won't be allowed to wear it on your back the whole time,
they will ask you to store it in the overhead bin or under the seat in front of you.
