Yes & No.

Yes if you're aircraft is taking off and landing.

No if the aircraft has not started yet and while in the air.

seventy
it should be ok, it's airports you can't photograph or video for security reasons

MOXIE
I have never in 30 years ever been told not to.

Sheed
not illegal

i take photos outside the windows of planes quite often

you can see some amazing spaceweather out the window of a plane if you know to look

Chris I
In what country? Air space regulations vary by location. The FAA (US flight authority) limits the use of any electronic item during take off and landing. I'm not aware of any rules concerning photographs and/or video.

But having said that, just because people do it doesn't mean it's legal. Look at file sharing.

It's probably so common that even if it is against some rule, it isn't enforced. Most people who fly for the first time want to remember this.

eurojoe
No. took some great cine film of Freddie (Garrety) and the Dreamers on board a Air India flight from Perth to Singapore in the 60s, don't think the rules have changed.

CaptainRowdy
Nope.

You may take pictures and videao inside an aircraft. Except when ascending or descending as electornic equipment may disrupt pilot's electronical devices.

manxbiker
no it is not illegal but out of courtesy you should ask the flight crew i.e steward/stewardess that way you will know that there is no problem

If you look on you tube there are loads of videos posted from inside planes as they come into land or experience turbulence. So no it is not illegal.

The simple answer is no.

Here are the details:

During takeoff and landing, the cabin crew requests your full attention, as most aviation accidents happen on the ground. Therefore, if they feel that you are more concentrated on taking pictures or recording video, they reserve the right to ask you to store all items during that time in the flight. Theoretically speaking, there should be no items in your lap or anywhere except under your seat or in an overhead bin when taking off or landing.

There has been no proof that cell phones cause in-flight malfuntions (I'm a pilot myself, believe me...). Camcorders and cameras are permitted onboard your flight. Laptop computers and other wireless devices are permitted as long as their networking features are disabled, including LAN and internet communication.

Happy flying...

i don't think there's anything wrong with it
you just can't use electronics during lift off and landing beacuse it interferes with radio signals

no its not....but you have to wait untill your in the air...always ask first tho

It usually depends on the kind of device you are using. Most airlines will insist you turn your cell phones off, but digital cameras are typically allowed. As long as you aren't being invasive or disrupting.

Nick B
There is no specific law banning the use of cameras onboard an aircraft, it is discouraged during take off and landing, although filming other people may infringe on their human rights I guess !

Nessie
I dont think it is. Youtube. you'll see plenty of people video camming inside the plane.

It's no biggie as long as you've already lifted off. I took pictures for much of a three hour plane ride in plain view of the flight attendants, they didn't say anything.

No problem using cameras on board. However they must not be used until after take off and have to be switched off when seatbelt signs are on for landing. You are not allowed to video safety demos and it's always advisable to ask.

Sullen
definitely not illegal

I don't think so, I've taken pictures inside the cabin before. Not sure why it would be?

The law on aerial photography is different in different countries. Most permit it, except around airports and military bases. Some nations forbid it everywhere.

There is nothing illegal in your actions. Airlines only stipulate that you don't operate electrical/electronic items during take off and landing (although there is no evidence that most equipment will endanger the safety of the aircraft).

Technical
Nope. Only phones and laptops are illegal in aircrafts as they could mix up with the air signal of the plane

Photo's and video's are a battery, so have no harm.

Paul C
as long as you dont get caught, its ok
