Is it normal for your feet to swell when your flying in a airplane? |

Some minor swelling is not uncommon, particularly on long-haul flights. It's usually a combination of retaining water and poor circulation due to sitting for such a long period.
If you can get up and walk around, that helps. If you can't, flex your legs and feet once in a while to keep the blood flowing. Avoid salty snacks (typical of airlines!) and drink plenty of water.
If it is severe swelling or does not go away shortly after landing, see a doctor. |

Hello.

No, they shouldn't. |

Swollen feet on airplanes is NOT uncommon, it is caused by prolonged inactivity and sitting for long periods of time. the medical term for it is edema. Get up and walk around if you can, and if possible elevate your legs (pretty hard to do unless you're in 1st or business class) , or try lifting your knees and moving your legs and feet. Also, take off your shoes, this will at least stop the discomfort from the swelling. It is not a serious medical problem and usually will resolve itself shortly after you leave the plane. |

NEVER HEARD OF THAT BUT FEET SWELLING IS USUALLY ASSOCIATED WITH TOO MUCH SODIUM ,SALT IN THE BODY |

hmmm...never heard of it...but it could be that your loosing circulation in your feet do to the cramped conditions on the plane if u r sitting coach. That will make you feet swell. I would suggest trying to get up and move around when you the seat belt sign goes off. |

It really depends on how long you're flying. I travel from Los Angeles to Abu Dhabi twice a year, and each flight is 22-30 hours with one layover at London Heathrow. My feet certainly swell, and it doesn't matter how many foot massages my wife and I exchange, how often I get up and walk, if I am in a business seat or economy. It's just a long time to sit.
Also, I'm 36 and in good health.
If you're feet swell after a 3 -4 hour flight, and you're under the age of 50, then I would seek some help. You may need some type of blood thinner and/or support socks/hose to help your circulation along. |

Yes, so do some excercises and keep your shoes on to keep your feet from swelling. Also walk around the plane to keep the blood flowing. Thats recommended for long haul flights |
