Yes you can put it in checked luggage but I'm actually an airline baggage handler and would HIGHLY advise against it. Find a way to carry it on or ship it and insure it.

You certainly CAN, but I wouldn't advise it. They don't treat any luggage delicately. Unless you already have two carry-on items that you can't do without, I'd strongly encourage you to keep the laptop with you.

cariebear197
yeah but you run the risk of the bag being thrown, dropped or whatever. my brother was going to but i watched as they moved it be checked and they were not to kind so i made him take it out and carry it on... believe me, if yiou want it to be safe, carry it on board. then you wont' be paying out the bunghole for repairs and or a new one!

viper88dj
Ya wrapping the other one in clothing - tshirts sweatshirts etc - sounds like a good idea for checked luggage.....lock or something sounds good for that case of putting a expensiver piece of hardware in ur luggage

rigelscout
I REALLY would not recommend that.
I tried putting a laptop in checked luggage once..They broke the screen and then would not pay for it.

The luggage is treated in a very rough manner. If you value the equipment then DON'T check it.
On another note you also can not lock luggage anymore. You are required to leave your bags unlocked in case the TSA, airline, etc wants to open it and inspect it. Valuables come up missing all the time.

If you DO decide to take it as carry on then make sure the battery is charged. The baggage screener will make you boot it up when you go thru security.

DG
I would not advise it my friend did and her screen got ruined. They throw the bags around like crazy and don't care what you have in them. Put it in your carrie on.

Alutiiq Beauty
TSA and the Airline throw luggage around, I hope you cushion it well from being slung around

Cupcake
All of the above answers are correct - you are allowed to check in a laptop - but a friend did that and it was stolen out of his suitcase - things like this happen all the time.

What about mailing the 2nd laptop to your destination - I frequently mail valuable items to my destinations (as long as it's not out of the country) and it has always been a good thing - no problems - plus you can insure the package. Good luck:)

It's posible, but I would not trust it,they have been known to disappear

Yes, but a lot of airlines and even insurance companies won't reimburse you for the laptop if your checked in baggage is lost.

jymonster
absolutely, no problem. maybe just put it near soft things to protect against jostling in the flight

♣BrownEyedBeauty♣
yea, in ur carry-on OR ur actuall luggage...

mrticketphils
I strongly suggest not to check in your laptop.
1. It many airports it will disappear
2.It could be damaged beyond repair

been there, done that

It is never recommended to check a laptop because of the potential for damage while your bag is being processed. If you can't carry it on, send it UPS and insure it!

princess_cde_17
You can, but I wouldn't. If you are traveling with someone else, have them bring one on. I wouldn't advise anything that breakable in checked luggage, they throw things around and are not careful with checked bags.

fallenfairy
of course you can. but put it in a bag.
