well r gonna feel a lot of turbulence (when the plane gets bumpy)

jennym
why would you want to fly in bad weather?? With thunder comes lighting. Do the math.

If you're on a commercial flight, why not. They know what they're doing up in the flight deck, you know. Also, it's been done countless times before and will be done countless times again. Lightning won't do much to a plane, as it is not grounded. I assume you're talking about a commercial flight. If you're goin to fly a cessna... I have no Idea.

Rosario M
no, but the pilot knows how to maneuver with such kind of weather.

The pilots have regulations that they must comply with. in such weather they will divert around the storm or fly above it if it is possible. If the storm is over the runway and bad enough they will delay the flight untill it is safe to take off.

I travel for a living and I'm a small airplane pilot. NThe answer t your question is both yes and no, depending on how you look at the clouds. Pilots try to go around situations like that, both for the comfort of the passangers and the safety of the airplane.

Yes, it dangerous because underneath large storm clouds there are severe air currents that could pose a danger to the structural integrity of most any airplane. Pilots know not to go near storms clouds like that. They know ahead of time where to expect them, so they plan their route away from those areas.

If an airplane were struck by lightening there is a very small possibility it could damage flight instruments or the flight computers. But, no, it's not dangerous because the flight computers and instrumentaion is grounded to protect them from lightening strikes. Believe it or not, lightening hits many commercial and military airplanes every year with no prolems occurring.

Not exactly. If it's thundering that could interfere with the flying control you know. The electricity meeting electricity..... not a good idea. But it's totally worth the good view of the thunder. But the bad news is that you have t oend up in the hospital after you crash!Sorry if that answer scared you if you are flying and it's suposed to thunder that day!

It all depends how close to the ground you are . If you are cruising at 35000 , you will get bounced around and as long as your seat belt is securely fastened you should be fine.
If however you are on final approach and you run into a micro burst/ wind shear you could become a statistic. Over the years hundreds and hundreds of people have died as a result of this phenomena. larger airports are installing some very sophisticated equipment to detect micro bursts.

Hell no not for me.

All thunderstorms do is cause some turbulence. Other wise they're harmless

is flying safe?

Depends, really. If it's only thunder, sound waves can't alter the plane's flight patterns and send it crashing into a field. Lightning, however, can. It's dangerous alright, so I'd avoid it.
