Yes. According to the Federal Aviation Administration, "Through March of this year, the aviation industry has maintained a rate of 0.022 fatal accidents per 100,000 departures. "

And according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, "NHTSA’s report projects a fatality rate of 1.46 deaths per 100 million vehicle miles traveled."

I work as an airline pilot, and I can tell you that as a group the people who fly you from place to place are very highly trained and competent people, and our #1 priority is your safety. You have pilots, Air Traffic Controllers, flight attendants, weather specialists, and aviation mechanics among others, all looking out for you when you are in the air.

Obviously, the NHTSA is continuously working on ways to make our roads safer. Unfortunately, on the highway, I doubt you can trust the guy 2 lanes over to be concerned with his own safety, much less yours. I'm far more nervous about driving to the airport than I am about boarding an airplane.

yes it is some even say its safer than your bathroom (although im not sure if its proven)

Probably. Though on any given day there is also a substantially greater number of vehicles on the road than there are flights. Also, an airplane accident often will be deadly, whereas automobile accidents are not.

yeah

Yes, not one person has died in an airplane crash in over 4 years.

How many have died in cars in that same amount of time?

Car crashes are not news, airplane crashes are news.

ladyfish1963
Yes and i'm flying tomorrow.

i don't think so, because 2 much planes are destroyed.

According to the stats, yes. Pilots are better trained than regular car drivers and their equipment is better maintained. Also they don't have the congestion and distraction problems that car drivers do. ie billboards, restaurants, pretty girls walking down the street with short skirts and other stuff. Not to mention there are millions of cars vs passenger aircraft.

vbunznomore
Yes.

yes there is much less accidents and deaths on airplanes then in cars

M360
Yes it is true, look at how many people are killed in one week on roadways, people don't die daily on planes, you can't even compare the two they are so different.

yes (and it's cheaper), there are millions of car recks every year, it's just that everybody make a big deal out of it when a plane crashes
