Is it usually hot or cold in an airplane?

I'm planning to fly and want to know how to dress.

Airplanes are climate controlled according to the weather - during the summer, they are kept cool, and in the winter, they're heated (planes are also cooler at night than during the day). If you're flying in the summer, wear long shorts (bermuda shorts are perfect) and bring a jacket, just in case you get chilly. If you're flying in the winter, wear jeans/pants and a long-sleeved shirt - you probably won't need your jacket on the plane.

Layering is key - bring things that you can take on and off easily.

It can vary from flight to flight as the flight crew usually controls it. The flight crew usually starts with the cabin cold as this is better for air sickness during takeoff. If its bumpy and hot during takeoff that can be a problem. Then the flight crew adjusts to what their experience thinks is comfortable. After that they may adjust based upon customer complaints. If your not comfortable don't be afraid to say so.

Inside the aircraft it's air-conditioned so just where something loose so your comfortable. The humidity can be very low so make sure you get enough to drink, very important on long flights.

On the way to your flight dress according to the local temperature. Depending on your destination you might need to carry extra clothing if it's colder than where you started from.

If you pack cold weather clothing in your baggage remember that it can be over an hour from arrival before you have access to your baggage.

It is usually climate controlled regardless, it ouwld be more improtant to dress accordingly to where you are going. Flying from the East Coast to the West Coast, I usually wear shorts, sandals, and bring a hoodie in my carry on just in case.

honey
Cold. They keep the air conditioner on too high. Bring a sweater and wears pants. You can take them off when you get to your destination if it is hot there.

I generally find that it's hot during boarding and while waiting to take off, but at cruise altitude it's cold.

Depends on how far you are traveling......if you travel overnight.....bring a sweater.....it could get pretty chilly at night.....and feel very stuffy toward the end of the flight with all those people breathing on you on board.

carl
depends

Frequent Flyer
The climate of the airplane depends on the season. In the summertime the airplanes are usually air conditioned, and in the winter they have the heater blasting hot in the airplane! I went on a trip in February and the minute I walked on the plane I started sweating, it was like Hawaii! It was the hottest flight I have ever been on!! It all depends, so the best thing to do is wear layers, so you can put clothing on when its cold and take off layers of clothing when its hot. If it is too hot or too cold don't be hesitated to tell the crew. remember there are also air conditioning vents above you that you can open or close!

Happy Travels!!
